Facebook Pictures Question?

So i have been doing this whole eating right/ exercising thing for almost 2 months now. All my friends at work have been really supportive so far. i was talking to one co-worker who has also lost a bunch of weight in the past. He said the first thing i need to do is "un-tag" myself from all my "fat pictures" on facebook. He claims that's what he did. This seemed like an odd thing to do in my opinion. I mean those pictures of me when i was fatter, are still pictures of me...just a bigger me.
Have any of you who have lost weight done this? Or plan on doing this? I know it's a rather trivial matter, but it just seemed like a strange thing to do, but my coworker seems to disagree.
Your thoughts?

I actually did this when I was my 'bigger' self. I felt so uncomfortable looking at myself like that. Now, however, it makes me smile to look at myself and look how far I've come!0

Whatever works for you, you know... I don't feel the need to do that. My "fat" pictures to me are a reminder of what I could go back to. Believe me, I need to keep one of those handy in case I have a craving of some sort! ;-)0

I disagree completely. I'm PROUD of having lost all that weight. I'm surprised anyone wouldn't be. ???? I even keep my progress pictures in an album on FB.0
-
Personally I'd keep them pictures around for motivation and to compare progress to. If they're on Facebook your friends may also use them to compare and start complementing you on the difference.
I also keep pictures of me when I was slimmer so I can train my mind into believing it's possible to get down to my goal weight.0 -
I don't think it's right! I think you should remember where you came from. What you looked like before and see how hard you fought. Also like you said-those pics are still of you........ What? are you supposed to forget that time in your life? Erase it from your memory? That's crazy.0

Actually, I plan on creating a Facebook album this weekend highlighting some of my fattest "fat pics" as well as some new ones showing off my weight loss. The old you was still you, and it seems ridiculous to pretend that it wasn't. Now, you're a healthier version of the same you, so flaunt it! Let people see the old pics and the new ones so they can see how far you've come. Who knows? You might inspire someone else to take the first step on their own fitness journey. If nothing else, untagging old pics seems to say that you were less of a person then or not worthy of being recognized, which is never the case, regardless of your weight.0

I think it's personal preference. For me, I deleted all the fat pictures. I don't want to ever see myself like that again!0

go with the new 'you' , yes you are still you, :happy:0

That has never crossed my mind. Like some of the other posts, it will remind me of how I used to be and what I don't want to look like it. Having those tagged photos will also show people how far I've come. I actually have a album on FB of my weight loss progress.0

I hate looking at pictures of myself before I lost weight. In the past 3 years I've lost about 165 lbs and I hated how I looked prior to losing that weight. However, I was that person and because of it I am who I am today. I'm working on accepting how I use to look and adjusting to how I look now. I was extremely hard on myself when I weighed so much.
I'm not sure why he told you to untag yourself from the old pictures, but everyone is different. I'm discovering it will be healthier for me to accept how much I use to weigh instead of trying to forget who I was back then.
Congrats on your weight loss!! Keep up the great work! :flowerforyou:0 -

off topic but.. your shoes are awesome!!!!0 -
Personally I think that is a stupid idea, but whatever works for you. I don't want to erase any of those happy memories, I may be fat in them but it shows me that no matter what I looked like I was surrounded by lots of friends and family. Even heavy I have always had enough self-acceptance and self-esteem that I can find good pictures at any weight.0

I have kept some "before" pictures, but for the most part, the evidence that I was ever "before" has been mostly erased from Facebook. I'd rather enjoy looking at the pictures that make me feel proud than cringe at the ones that make me feel bad.
I haven't untagged anything, but my friends aren't real big on tagging photos anyway.0 -
I've untagged myself from one photo of me that was very unattractive. I had my shirt off and it was when I was my heaviest so it is a little embarrassing. Eventually maybe I'll use it as a "before" picture.
I've also had to un-tag some photos of me and my ex-girlfriends. Yes they are MY memories and I don't think everyone needs to see them, especially not future girlfriends.0 -
You can see a fb tagged photo of me fat in my profile pics and I keep it. It is motivation abecause I want to remember how bad I looked to keep me on the right track. I may even print it and put it on my treadmill.0

I did the same - untagged myself from photos with my ex. Some I just deleted altogether. Don't want memories of that.
I still have some "fat" photos on FB, but I was fat back in the pre-FB days...sooo...doesn't leave many photos that were actually uploaded to FB0 -
I can get this to some degree- some of us have a hard time adjusting to who we are now. I've just now stopped being surprised when I pass a reflective surface. Acknowledging who I am now, (a healthy, active person) and the way I look now has taken some work, and maybe your coworker feels the same. Maybe looking at their fluffy pics is actually demotivating and takes them back to a place of feeling hopeless, unhealthy and awkward.
Just a thought. That being said, I untag almost all FB photos of myself because I am very skiddish about people I don't want to being able to see pics of me and my fam on FB (I have a job where boundaries are very important).0 -
