I was doing so good on my routine..4 months+ hitting the gym 5-6x a week, eating within my calories...
I lost 25 pounds...
This month has been going horrible..to be fair..I stayed within my calories except for 2 days (1 being today) but I only hit the gym 2x this month.
I just totally binged..I ate about 900-1000 calories in one sitting. I'm majorly stressed about an exam on Monday and a few things at home really got to me.
What changed? I took a summer class that starts/end this month and it's really screwing me up.
It's not only the exams, reading, essays..but it's an 8AM class/5x a week..I AM NOT A MORNING person, (9A, 10A, at min) 8A is really pushing it for me, considering I have to be up by 6A just to get ready, etc.
I feel I'm running so ragged between this class, work, my home life, the pets.
I just don't have the energy to go work out because my sleeping schedule has been so wacky.
And I hate to be those people but OMG, "I feel I just don't have the time to go to the gym."
I fell asleep yesterday at 5P, thought I was going to nap but I ended up sleeping till 1A. I've been up and didn't go to sleep, well I've already been up for almost 12 hours..I only had around 500 cals left to my day with basically another 12 hours to go...I got really agitated and basically binged and said hell to it all.
The only solution I came up with is hitting that gym RIGHT AFTER that class, come home, get dressed and go so I don't have any excuses. My usual gym time was afternoon but when it rolls around I feel exhausted.
I don't now if this is a rant, a help plea or whatever. Anyone do really good for sometime and then hit some speed bumps?

I go through this more often than I want to admit. Just take a step back, breathe, stop stressing, and do your best to get back on track. Your body is getting used to a new schedule, it takes time to adjust. Just remember what you're working for and how great it's going to feel later. Tomorrow is a new day to begin all over. :flowerforyou:0

I hear you. I was on a roll a while back (gym, soccer, running, etc) then started school at night (2 classes) and I'd be too wiped so I started to sloooowly get off track. Before I knew it I was not working out at all and eating whatever I wanted. Luckily, my body will be okay as far as not gaining weight for a couple of months but I could feel my pants getting snug. Finally the scale moved up 5lbs and fortunately for me, school was out. I was able to get myself back on track.
Your plan sounds great on how to squeeze some gym time. I don't have any advice as I didn't overcome my funk but I'm sure if I REALLY tried I would had. Good luck and just get back in.0 -
I feel your pain I work very early, so I have the first two meals of the day all set.. and then when I come home I'm exhausted. I usually nap after lunch, and then feel like crap after. I've found that going straight after work to do my workout helps out A LOT. It sucks, but it's worth it in the end. Plus, you'll sleep wonderfully that night.

I relate to this a lot, too! all I can say is don't beat yourself up, you're human, there is stress, and you get through it the best way you can, and then you go on. Forgive yourself!

Binges happen. I would just consider it a spike calorie day, or fast for the rest of the day to reset your system. As for the "no time to exercise", I used to buy into, but I don't anymore. You have to MAKE time to exercise. When I was in college I said I don't have time. Now I am finishing up my medical residency, which involved way more hours of work, but I have managed to exercise consistently for over 2 years. One of the sacrifices I had to make was to force myself to get up early and workout despite being a night owl. Doing my exercise first thing in the am was the only way to guarantee it happened.

I'm having the same issue. I went to Disney World last month on the full meal plan. I didn't have time to go to the gym Monday or Tuesday, since I left early Wednesday morning. When I got home, it was catching up on everything, then my father was in the hospital for two weeks and I've had to take someone to work at my normal work out time. This week, I've let him take my car since he works 5pm - 3am, and I get up at 6 am.
I've been to the gym ONCE since I got back on the 18th. It's been hot, so I've been eating Schwan's ice cream. I think I've gained back 3 pounds of the 32 I've lost in the last 6 months.
I have my gym clothes in my car, and am headed there IMMEDIATELY after work. I know that if I get out of that routine, it's harder to go back.

^^^ EXACTLY what she said!!! Just remember to forgive yourself. I find that if I don't, I'll eat to make myself feel better.
Good for you for looking at it and seeing how you can juggle your schedule to make it work for you. I hope that going to the gym after your (hideously) early class works!

I completely understand this issue. I too am a student, an intern and a mil wife. One thing i do during the semester is take the stairs at the school and the garage to get in a few extras. Also, take your gym clothes with you and stop at the gym on the way home, that way you bypass the i'm already home why bother going out again. You can do this. yes it does suck. And school will completely jack any kind of routine you think you might have. but... that doesnt mean give up completely so it was a bad day and you've slipped on the gym a little. dont give up. take one or two of the suggestions you get from here and keep going.0

Anyone who says they never hit a speed bump - is either dead or lying. Of course we all hit "those times" when our diet and exercise take the back seat to other crisis situations. But, part of this journey is figuring out how to juggle it all. I totally understand your situation. I'm working full time, taking care of a home and trying to fit in 3-4 hours of CPA review every day and go to the gym. It really doesn't work - something has to give. Right now, it's my studying.
But, I have gotten one or two videos. One is the "power mile" - which is 15 mins and it's a mile walking routine (with other simple exercises). It may not be enough for you - but it's movement. There will probably be times when I do not physically have time in the day to exercise, I can't control that. But, I can control what I put in my mouth. I'm not saying to not exercise, but if there are small amounts of times that you can't do it for a week or something - don't beat yourself up. Just be content losing 1/2 pound (if it's only that). Realize things will slow down eventually and you can add that exercise back in -
I'm not perfect so this may not be a solution for you - but I say - stay on this journey. If you fell off the wagon today - get right back on at your next meal0 -
For an 8am class, I would probably have put on my gym clothes and gone to the gym immediately after class. At the very least, I would suggest you have your clothes with you. This would eliminate the desire to take a nap when you go home to change.

Not a morning person - me EITHER!!!! I did read a good book about three years ago that changed my life - the recommendation and benefits of working out are to do it in the morning (yes, groan). I started Yoga (FitTV Namaste Yoga is great DVR it or buy CD). Not only will it start your metabolism/body right, it stimulates your brain as well - the whole day goes better. Doing Yoga is also relaxing and the benefits of stretching are incredible, not to mention that muscles burn more calories than fat and Yoga builds muscle. I have three herniated disks in my back and after a year of Yoga I was able to get completely off the Oxy for pain, not to mention that I've lost 17 pounds so far and kept it off!!! Give it a try, if nothing else, Yoga will help you focus and stay positive. once you start, you won't feel "right" starting the day without it (not to mention that you have to log it here for everyone to see!!!) I can totally relate. I just started my summer semester. I work over 50 hours a week and I go to school part time on top of volunteering. Do I have time to work out? Technically yes I do. But it's just SO hard to make myself do it now that I'm so busy.
I'm trying to utilize a day planner to help me organize my life so I can squeeze in all my work outs. Once we figure out how to better manage our time, things will fall into place and we will get back on track.0 -
I Do I DO I DO I DO, I am just coming off of a slip up. I have come to the conclusion, I fit into the "nobody's perfect" rule. If I expect to be perfect then I will always fail.
Just get back to the gym and start eating the way you need to again. You can do it0 -

TRUST ME..I totally know what you mean...I work full time M-F 9-5 and I am a fulltime online grad student...and also a full time girlfriend who lives with my boyfriend. Balancing all of this is SUPER hard for me.
I just got back from Miami, where I drank a lot of alochol and ate all the pizza and penne alla vodka I wanted...yesterday was my first day getting back into the swing of things...by then end of the day I felt like I was starving and as soon as I got home from work I wanted to do nothing but sleep.
So what I ended up doing was setting my purse down, not sitting down not even for one second, and I got to work. I had to clean, study for my exam, and get in a work out, AND cook dinner! I started with cleaning...by the time 7:15 came around I was still cleaning and I made it my goal to be finished with everything (cleaning working out showering and cooking by 8pm when So you think you can dance came on). I finished cleaning, popped in my Jillian Michaels 30 ady shred dvd, got in my 20 minute high impact circuit training workout, and I was done with EVERYTHING by 8:03pm and I studied while I watched my show.
There IS time...you just have to make time...it's all in your head that you dont have time or that you cant do it.
You don't have to get in a 60 min + of working out EVERYDAY...go for a 30 min walk or run...I highly suggest the 30 day shred it has really helped me fit working out into everyday and it is a butt kicker.

i so feel your pain. i was always the person who got so aggitated with my friends saying they didnt have time to workout. i always thought how do you not have time for atleast a 30min or 1 hr workout when you watch tv for 3 hours a day? But this week as i started summer school also and am having a hard time between getting my homework done or working out after an 8 hr work day. cant believe it- i was never like that! the best solution for me is to, like you said, come home and IMMEDIATLY change into workout clothes so i dont have any time for excuses. even if i hop on the computer for a minute in my workout clothes i still go workout whereas if i was in workclothes id find excuses not to. weird.i know. it gives my the energy to get some homework done not as much as id like to get done though =\ (i get SO much energy after a workout- like freakishly amounts of energy lol) whereas the other night after going out to dinner i immediately jumped on the computer to do hw and fell asleep on the couch for the night after only reading the first line =/ i hope that helps some! but we'll see after a few weeks if im doing good in class bc of it hahah0

Good suggestion, I'm just going to put a gym bag in the night before so I can go right from there.
I jumped on the scale a few days ago (I normally just weigh-in on the 1st of the month) but I came in right @ 170.2
I LOVE seeing that middle number change and I'm CLOSE TO IT!
I'm going to keep it up, I already came too far to go back.

I just joined the site and am using the summer when I am off from work to get into the groove of eating healthier and exercising. I have concerns about what will happen when I have to get up at 5am and work all day. I worry about coming home and being too tired to exercise. I know that there will be those days where I have a tough time motivating myself and I will fall off a bit. We are all human! I hope that with the support of family and new friends who are on the same mission, I will have many more good days than ones where I let myself be lazy. You can get back on track!! Good luck!!0

Phew! it seems like there's a lot going on for you. Just breath, and try to go back to what you were doing one thing at a time. If all you can do today is stay within your calorie limit, great. You're one step closer to getting back on track!

i just started my full time summer hours, and i'm in the same boat as you. prior to my new schedule, i went to the gym 5 days per week. this week i've only made it twice. but this is important to me and i know i'll adapt. you will too. one thing i'm going to start doing are my 30 day shred videos - they are only 20 minutes long, but they're pretty intense, so even though it's not my usual gym routine (1 to 2 hours per day there), it will be better than nothing! you've got this! chin up!0

Don't be so hard on yourself! I know that when I'm stressed about school or other things, it is extremely difficult for me to also focus on my eating. I tend to feel out of control with my eating, and then guilty, and then out of control. I started to recognize that I was stressed and that eating was a manifestation of that. To be honest, I'm still not great at controlling my eating when I'm crazy stressed, but I am more forgiving of myself. What that has done for me is it helps me wake up with a new day, and keeps me encouraged, not discouraged. It allows me to say, "okay, I messed up yesterday, but today can be different".0

Everyone feels like this sometimes! If you dont have time for the gym maybe try exercise tapes until your class is done that way you can do it at home in your spare time and wont have to worry about driving to and from the gym. I only do home work outs because I would never go to the gym!
Try making a few minutes to online shop or hit the mall, looking at clothes I want to fit into always motivates me!

Two weeks ago, I got "laid off" from my job of 13 years as a cost-cutting move by the company. That completely derailed me. I don't think that I drove past a fast food spot without stopping to eat some junk. I just haven't felt like planning out my meals and taking the time to exercise until Wednesday of this week.
I know that I am committed long term. I might get knocked off track, but I am going get back on. It might take me one day. It might take 10, but exercise and fitness bring me relaxation and joy. I can't give that up.

Don't feel guilty. Take care of yourself, eat as well as you can, and relax. It won't hurt you to go on maintenance for a bit, if you need to; you'll just be pausing, not going backwards. Even if you don't, just know that you're not doing irreparable damage, and you're not doing anything to feel guilty about at all.0
