Trochanteric bursitis

So after a few months of pain/discomfort in my left hip, a couple of X-rays and general poking and prodding, it looks like I probably have trochanteric bursitis. My GP has referred me to a physiotherapist but it's likely to be quite a wait (few months even) before I see someone. My GP has told me to carry on as I am exercise wise and know my limitations (they know I'm not completely stupid!) but I often find that I don't get pain while exercising, but afterwards instead.
Is there anything I should or shouldn't be doing, and any insight re: treatment and what to expect would be great!

I had this earlier this year, was a result of Ilio-tibial band syndrome. My physio prescribed glute strengthening exercises (fire hydrants and clam shells were the most effective for me - both with resistance bands). Good luck! I was out of commission for 12 weeks almost exactly. Yours sounds way better than mine was, so maybe with some strengthening you'll be good to go.0

Was just kind of mentioned in passing (was also there about my blood pressure!) and that the physio will be the best people to sort me out. Got an appointment booked for 15th December. I'm relatively new to exercise but I've broken through the mental barrier in the last two weeks or so and I'll be gutted if I have to stop!

I get that in one side. Usually I just rest it from the movements that are painful (for like a week), but it went on for months once last year. I already see a pain specialist, so she just gave me the cortisone shot. That helped a lot. Those aren't great to take, but if it's something like that that doesn't come up often, I do usually try one round.
With my usual cases of it, I use a heating pad for the pain and rest for several days. Mostly I don't move it in ways that squish that bursa and the swelling goes away nicely just from the rest. Normal anti-inflammatories might be worth a shot, too. I'm sure I took those, too, as I take them often enough for another pain thing I have.
If you haven't rested it at all, that might be great news. Take a couple of days and see if that starts to help. If so, go for the week, imho. This is just what I'd do, and I'm nobody, so it's just 2 cents, keep in mind0 -
I had this over the summer, physiotherapist recommended rest from exercise, ice packs, and ibuprofen. Had some glute strengthening exercises to do at home, but to be honest it was that rest that helped me (I had almost 3 weeks complete rest). I still feel it if I've overdone it, so I know to rest a little or go easy at whatever I'm doing.0

My sympathies, I had this earlier on this year and it put me out of action completely. I was prescribed anti-inflammatories - not OTC ones, and advised to rest it as much as possible to allow the swelling to go down, I now know that if I had rested it properly when it first started I would not have been left being hardly able to walk for quite a while.0

I don't have any swelling (not that I can see - I'm still overweight with about 30lbs left to lose and carrying most of that around my hips - plus I've already lost 130lbs so my hips aren't the most attractive part of me anyway!). I suspect there's some underlying injury that has caused it to start up. I went for my first ever run a few months back and was mildly uncomfortable a couple of days after (thought I'd pulled something as id been repeatedly throwing the dogs toy with a twisting motion) and that settled down after a couple of days. Went for my second run and this pain started up on my way home and hasn't gone away since.
It's on my left side which is my weak leg and I know that that foot lands more mid-sole and with more impact than it should. I had issues with my legs due to a prolapsed disc in my lumbar spine a few years back.
I was off work for a week and really pushed myself at the gym, I was there 6/7 days that week trying new classes and stuff. The pain didn't get any worse that week (despite a pretty intense lower body workout one day, including 3x10x150kg leg press). The end of the week I got a pretty nasty cold and I'm asthmatic as well so I did nothing at all that week besides walking my dog (who is 13 years old so nothing remotely strenuous) and it got no better or worse the second week either.
Since then I've been doing my weekly classes (kettlebells, spinning and Aqua HIIT) and it's been pretty consistent in the pain/discomfort - interestingly only when I'm walking, nothing when I stand/sit/lie etc. until the night before last where I now can't lie on that side for too long and the dog is currently sat next to me against that hip and I can feel it...
Will see what the physio says I guess!0
