Finding the right motivator

My company recently offered a health seminar on the keys to long term weight loss that was sponsored by our health insurance provider. The health care specialist emphasized the importance of finding the right motivator to keep you going on your journey. She mentioned that for her, her faith was a huge motivator, and she reminded herself every day that her body was a temple and wanted to maintain it.
I have found that my biggest challenge is finding a motivator that keeps me going. For some, it's the end game; seeing themselves where they want to be. For others, it's health; being around to see their children grow up. When left to my own devices I have always stopped caring and end up failing because nothing is a strong enough motivator for me, or because I just haven't found the right thing yet.

So my question to everyone is this:

What are the things that keep you strong, and encourage you to keep going on your journey?

For me it is pretty simple: Looking good and feeling healthy. So nice to be able to wear "regular" clothing and have it look good from any angle. Might be vain, but keeps me going....

It's all about health for me. I want to remain strong and healthy as I age. I want to continue to enjoy life, not sit around talking about my aches and pains and new diagnoses.

My motivator has changed a bit. I wanted to get off a bunch of different medications I was on. Mission accomplished. Of course I want to stay off those medications but that isn't a big motivator to keep going. I have realized that I like being more active and not huffing and puffing like I did. I guess just staying strong and active is my current motivator.

I"m finding that looking through the success stories here on the site helps me a lot....lets me know that other's have been in my shoes and they did it. It challenges me to expect more of myself.

    Good luck!

My desire to be healthy and fit keeps me disciplined...not necessarily motivated all of the time, but disciplined. IMO, motivation is an overrated emotion and it ebbs and flows constantly. As much as I love to ride and hit the weight room, I would do it far less often if I was only going by my feelz and whether or not I was motivated...discipline is what keeps me going...discipline is what keeps me consistent.

From the diet perspective, I'm a pretty much rock in the kitchen and enjoy making nutritious meals for myself and my family...contrary to what many seem to think, "healthy" eating doesn't have to be bland and boring.

I've lived both sides of the health and fitness thing...grew up playing all manner of sport and being active and fit...put on a bunch of weight in my 30s and was a 2-3 PAD smoker who could barely walk the dog around the block without needing a nap...now I'm back to my healthy and fit self and between the two, this is far superior.

Crazylilrae are you using food as a source of comfort or happiness? Many people do. The best motivator would be to recognize whether you reach for food for the wrong reasons.

It's a mental thing. We have to recognize it and start thinking differently about food; we have to think of food as great fuel for our body.
