I can't exercise enough!

Today I walked two miles.. and I was so proud of myself, and was exhausted afterward. It's the most I've walked, ever. I sign back on here, and see that people do Jillian Michaels (that would probably kill me) and some people walk 3.. 4.. 5.. and more miles! Even people who are just starting! I can't even do half the things on the Wii Fit without feeling like I'm going to fall over. How do all of you do these things, and those of you that are just starting, how are you able to do those things right away?

I cant do that stuff either! I'm lucky to walk one mile. Actually I walked one mile yesturday and was almost dead and then I came on here and saw it only burned like 124 calories. I was so upset!! All I know for us to do is just keep trying and add a little bit on at a time untill we get to where they are.0

All you can do is workout at your own pace, and your endurance will improve over time. Try pushing yourself to go a little bit faster or a little bit farther every day. I started my weight loss journey with walking 3 miles, and I was eventually able to get it up to 8-9 miles...now when I try to go for a walk, I end up jogging because walking isn't enough of a challenge for my body.
Be patient and you'll get to where you want to be0 -
Awww please dont be so hard on yourself. Everyone has different levels of fitness...the key is not giving up and every week push yourself just a little harder. Try for 2.5 miles next week...it takes time unfortunately but if you're patient you will reap the rewards!!!0

Baby steps, BUT keeping our diet in check, eating right, proper rest will help as well.0 -
One step at a time Remember this is your journey and yours alone!! It is not a competition!! I started slowly, and just kept pushing myself a little harder week after week! Sometimes I find that my MFP friends postings on their workouts etc encourage me to push a little harder or try something new!! But you need to do what's right for you!! Good luck on your journey!!0

The only person you face in the mirror each day is YOU. The only person you should be 'competing' against in terms of diet and exercise is YOU. You said that 2 mile is the furthest that you've ever walked............well CONGRATULATIONS to you, because a whole lot of people in the world are wondering how on earth did you manage that? LOL
Everyone has to start from somewhere, and a lot of people start by walking to the end of the block.................most people don't run a marathon on day one.
I think you did great to walk two miles, and perhaps the next time you'll walk 2.1 miles or more. Or you'll walk two miles just a little bit faster than you did today, or you'll pump those arms a little bit harder while walking, or you'll consider walking for 5 minutes and then jogging for 30 seconds to see what that feels like. The point is.........don't compete with anyone but yourself.
WTG for getting up off the couch in the first place!!!!!0 -
I have a few comments on this...
When I first started I was doing a sorta brisk walk for about 20 minutes, on a little incline. That was hard for me. A week or so later I was going much much faster, for twice as long. For those of us who were never exercising I think there's a big barrier we need to break through were we stop listening to our body complain "I'm too tired, stop torturing me!" The body pretty quickly figures out that this workout isn't going to kill it, and to stop whining. And you learn to see the difference between a real problem, and your body just not liking the work.
You're able to walk 2 miles today, that's a great starting point. Just remember that as that 2 miles gets easier you're going to want to keep doing it, and let it be easier. But you need to fight that and instead go for 3 miles, then 4, then start jogging for a few minutes, then increase that... etc. YOu need to keep pushing yourself to get to the goal.
Best of luck to you, you can do it.
By the way, 2 months ago I did 20 minutes walking. Today I can run a 5k without stopping. Just two months difference. If I can do it, anyone can. Believe me.0 -
I would like to throw out one piece of advice... invest in a Heart Rate Monitor NOW. It's great, because it will actually show you how hard you are working. The goal of cardio exercise is to keep working hard, and keep that heart rate at the right range for as long as you work out. By getting the HRM you'll know when you're at the right range, and when things are getting easier. It's a great tool to teach you how hard you should be walking, and pushing yourself.0

The 1st time I ran, I went 2 miles and had to walk parts of it.. I had shin splints so bad afterwards I could hardly walk.
18 months after that 1st run, I completed my 1st marathon (26.2 miles) give yourself some time, and build up slowly. It will get easier, just stay strong and be consistent !0 -

You just started. It will come! I always tell my members my story. When I first started this journey at 186 pounds, my friend told me to take a spin class. I lasted MAYBE 15 minutes and I thought I was going to die. I actually felt like I may throw up, so I got up and left in the middle of class, and went back to walking on the treadmill....zzzzzz. My comfy zone. I remember that day asking one of the trainer which is more important, how hard you work or for how long? He said BOTH. LOL. I would tell people I hated spinning, and wouldn't take it again. After much nagging I took it a number of weeks later from another instructor. I proceeded to take the ENTIRE ONE HOUR CLASS. Never exercised for an hour straight in my life. Cut to now...I'm a fitness instructor...who teaches....SPINNING. :-D Don't give up. Just keep pushing along. The body only shows results when we push it past it's comfort zone. You will get there!!0
