Oil-free frying - worse than baking/boiling?

I read everywhere how bad frying your food is, but is that because of the oil involved or is it actually the way frying works?

I have a super non-stick pan that requires no oil: is chopping up my chicken and cooking it in that less healthy than baking it? Similarly, with veges, is it less healthy to chop them up and cook them in the pan than it is to boil or steam them? I don't see how it should make a difference if I don't use oil, but everyone seems so anti-frying that I just thought I'd check.

Thanks!

No its perfectly fine :) I fry things a lot because it is quicker, as long as you aren't using oil, its not adding any fat or calories.

It's more healthy to cook either chicken or veggie in a little healthy vegetable oil (olive, canola, peanut, sunflower, etc.). Unsaturated oils can make you feel full longer and lower your overall cholesterol. Just a tablespoon or two. Don't go crazy.

It's definitely fine to dry fry. And adding a teaspoon of olive oil isnt bad either, just 40 cals.

    Good luck :flowerforyou:

No. When you use oil to fry, some of the oil is absorbed into the food. That is why they say fried food is bad. Also if there is breading or batter on the food it adds to the absorption which adds to the calories and fat in the food. Dry frying is not bad. You can even add a tablespoon of canola oil or a spray of pam to give it a liittle color and flavor without adding much fat or calories.

dry frying is fine. adding oil is more fat/calories. i live by pam spray olive oil so my food doesnt stick, but i cant afford amazing pans. I use this oil to roast taters in the oven and such instead of using oil.

Cooking any veggie (especially boiling), does remove some vitamins apparently, but its still a healthy food.. something like a potatoe for example, if you boil it, you loose potassium and such but if u bake it, all of those vitamins remain in the potatoe because they dont leech out into the water... frying in a pan is fine because they dont have water to leech out into.

Glad you thought of this question  It's nice to know some of my recipes aren't as bad as I thought, since I use less than a tablespoon of olive oil when frying
