I have the same problem. I've been taking a walk or playing wii. It helps me to occupy my mind. And of course the calorie burn doesn't hurt either.

Sometimes, I'll make a cup of tea or coffee or have a powerade zero.....esp. when I want something sweet.

    You CAN do this!

Gum! Gum is my lifesaver when I get the munchies and get bored like that!

Unfortunately I have the SAME issue! I'm definitely an emotional eater... and that includes boredom... which is all I am at work! I just make sure to stock up on fruit and Special K crackers/chips at work.. and ONLY eat one serving (yes, I even began counting the chips... totally weird for me!). I also make sure to stock my fridge at home the same way. Special K crackers/chips will satisfy my salty craving, and strawberries satisfy my chocolate/sweet craving. If I only have healthy things... then I can only snack on those. Being bored and snacking is almost an addiction for me, and emotional eating is for many people... so you're not alone!! You just have to snack on the good things... and drink lots of water!! (I use the mio flavor enhancer too to mix it up a bit).

I agree with Lenajw-- occupy yourself with something else. Take a walk, go to the gym, drink a glass of water, read a book, take a nap ... just try to occupy yourself with something else. And ask yourself "Am I really hungry? Is my stomach growling?" If not, then you know that you aren't actually hungry.
  • Yea, I'm the same.. I chew gum like Sharleengc said... I find it works the best for me.

LOL, my kids have been doing this ever since school got out last week! I tell them to turn of the tv or computer, and they immediately go to the kitchen and ask for food. I've got to teach them now to distinguish hunger from boredom! (I just remind them they shouldn't be hungry, they weren't a minute ago when watching a show, they just need to find something else to do).

Suggestion for you: Walk past the fridge to the kitchen sink and get a glass of water. Or, keep a pitcher of water in the fridge, and go for that. A lot of times when we want to eat we're actually thirsty. Water will fill your tummy for a bit and distract you from eating.

I try to keep my hands busy. So I try to knit or do something crafty that doesn't take a lot of prep or set up. Another alternative is a hand held video game, like a Nintendo ds.

Brush your teeth... it's illegal to eat for 8 hours after doing so. ;)

i grab something to drink instead, water or coffee because i know im not hungry its just mindless eating you just have to be extra aware of it and find something else to do with your hands.
