I am 19 years old and I'm currently in college. I need to lose weight or I could get diabetes very soon. It's so hard to find any healthy foods at my college and I would appreciate some advice.

Hi. I'm 25 and just diagnosed with diabetes. Scary situation. Hate all the things I have to do. I was chubby when I started college but I gained over 100lbs. I suggest cut pop, believe in yourself. Stick to meat and veggies limit snacks and carbs. Its a long journey ahead of me. I don't want anyone to be like me.

I really struggled with food choices when I was in college. You can do it!

Check at your local YMCA. They likely have a diabetes prevention course that you may be able to take for free. (Ours did) I lost around 25 pounds over the couple months I was in that and continued on here. They will help with food advice, coping strategies that don't involve food, weight checkins, etc.

They may also have periodic followup classes afterward to help you stick to your guns. I still go to mine occasionally even though I've dropped out of the "very obese" BMI range to "obese" (I'm still more at risk for diabetes than I will be when I'm down to "normal" but much better off than when I started when I was considered "borderline".)
