Over daily fat intake goal, but not over daily calorie goal

Hi all,

Just wondering how important, or not, staying within our other daily goals like fat, protein, carbs, etc are? Last few days I've gone over my daily fat intake goal due to the introduction of Brazil nuts, walnuts, almonds, and cashews. Also been over my daily protein intake goals a few times, but staying within my daily calorie goals.

Thanks for any info!

Most of us view protein and fat as minimum macros.

I follow this as well, fat, protein and fibre are the minimums I aim for. Then I make up any calories left once I hit those with anything I like.

Sounds fine to me. I try to stay reasonable when it comes to added healthy fats, but intrinsic healthy fats are just dandy in my book!

As long as you are under your needed calories, you will lose weight.
Doesn't matter if you eat only twinkies or only broccoli. (Neither of which would be healthy.)
You're going to get a lot more mass, more chewing, more fiber, more nutrients, from the real food.

As long as you are within the healthy ranges for macros, you should stay healthy.
Here's a table which explains the healthy ranges, from the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition:
    http://ajcn.nutrition.org/content/88/1/1/T1.expansion.html

carbs, 45 - 65% of calories (4 cal per gram)
fat, 20 - 35% of calories (9 cal per gram)
protein, 10 - 35% of calories (4 cal per gram)

So for someone with a calorie goal of 2000 per day, that would be
    50% carbs, 1000 cal, 250 g
    25% fat, 500 cal, 56g
    25% protein, 500 cal, 125 g
(just to take the simplest example as a starting point; adjust for your own needs, to see where you feel best)

Yup. I go over fat just about every single day.

Thanks for all the replies, and that link @MKEgal, very helpful!

I'll not concern myself then. :)

It's fine. Especially if you are weighing those nuts and logging accurately. I like to aim for .35g of fat per pound of body mass. I'm not sure what MFP gives as a default.

It's the calories that are important for weight loss. There isn't any need to over complicate things at this point! Don't worry :)

Thanks @arditarose, @catscats222, and @PinkPixiexox for your responses also. Much appreciated!

catscats222: The ones I purchased are just the standard bag of nuts from ASDA/Walmart, so should be okay. :)

    Thanks again all!

I was wondering the same thing, as I go over just about every day, usually because of eggs, nuts, and avocados.
