Calories Burned Question

The "calories burned" for walking, both brisk and moderate pace, seem quite generous. Am I wrong?
Also is there a way to enter your exercise, but not have it add to the calories goal for the day?

MFP tends to overestimate caloric burns in general.

For walking a good formula for net expenditure(source Runners World) .30 x weight (in lbs) x distance (in miles) ie a 200lb person would expend an additional 60 cal per mile walked (assumes reasonably level terrain)

You can force the calorie burn to 1 when you enter the activity.

Thanks, Brian! I am using MFP primarily for weight loss and to keep track of blood glucose, blood pressure, etc. and I don't want to overestimate the calories I should have on any given day. I appreciate your response.

I've been trying to use machine and app reported calorie burn after sorting out what I think is more reasonable, and strongly support the above method of doing the research and then logging it.

I like that if you use the app to enter the exercise, on return trips it defaults to the calorie burned per minute you have previously used. Due to that if a person does cardio at a reasonably set pace usually, they can figure out their calorie burn once and after that MFP defaults to using that burn rate. I haven't noticed if this takes place on the PC or not, but it does on my phone using the app.
