I am confused. Having in my youth studied nutrition (back in the dark ages) I thought that I had a good understanding of nutrition. I am on a weight loss regime - lost 28 lbs and 16 to go M65 5'9"
My belief is that trans fats are not a wise thing to consume so I keep an eye on them in MFP however I created a dish which I called Pork risotto - basically pork. onions and rice and find that this is the majour source of my Trans fats!

Looking more closely it says that the whole portion contains 3g of fat BUT 18g of trans fats - see below.

What is going on?

Are you sure that all your database entries are correct? Also, there are naturally occurring trans fats in some foods. Are you sure that isn't what may be going on here?

I have copied down the results from MFP - as shown but cannot understand how they have reached their result - clearly 3g cannot suddenly change to 18 unless I am misreading the info.
Maybe they mean 18mg of trans fat?

It may be just me but I am an ANALytical type.

look at the individual entries you used to create the recipe. My guess is that there's an entry in there that is erroneous and probably has total fat as 0 but includes trans fats. you have to keep in mind that most of the entries in the data base are from users and users don't always get the data right.

This. Double-check each entry used in the recipe to find out which one has the trans fat. I've had the recipe builder pull in all sorts of screwy information based on inaccurate entries.

I have substituted a different boiled pork and now it has zero transfers. The database must have been wrong. Many thanks for the response.
