Fitbit+Walking in Place

Hello!
I seem to be posting a lot of threads lately...
Anyways, are Fitbits meant to count any step, including walking in place? If so, I don't think mine's working well.

Yes it should. It counts your steps so if your walking in place it should as long as your moving. Mines does

It does not accurately count walking in place depending on the model. They are meant to track motion in 3 dimensional space. You might have a better option of manually logging an activity instead.0

I've noticed that my Fitbit doesn't always count steps when I am in a small area. I read on their site that one should make sure that they put that they are wearing it on their non-dominant hand if it's not recording enough steps. If it's picking up too many steps (mistaking movements to steps) one is supposed to change their setting to say they are using the dominant hand. I don't know what you set it at, but if you put dominant perhaps it's not picking up enough steps.0

Mine is a Zip. Maybe that's the issue?0

I just clip it to my bra0

My Charge HR definitely counts when I walk or jog in place.
Maybe try super exaggerated motions? It might be looking for the "bounce"of a step taken so with walking in place maybe your movement needs to be more dynamic.0 -
I've tried simulating a real step taken, but my Fitbit knows I'm lying. I have been skipping my first work breaks of the day to make up 3 unpaid hours off this Friday coming. I usually walk on all of my breaks, but man, it's not working in my favor, step wise0

I always walk in place with my Zip, in fact I am now (standing desk) but I use a Wii Fit balance board to step on and off, so it's sort of a forward and back motion rather than just up and down. I have mine clipped to my undies at my hip so it picks stuff up well, I feel like it sometimes doesn't pick up quite as well when it's on my bra.0

Mine doesn't count steps i take when in small spaces or in place either. Not sure if that's a problem yet though, calorie burn seems pretty accurate even in spite of this.0

I've been meaning to try mine on my Wii Fit to see if I can maybe squeeze in some steps while I watch TV. I'll try it tonight and let you know. I have a Zip also. It might work differently if you're stepping up and down.0

I've got a zip and it counts steps normally if I'm walking in place. Try taking heavier steps or jog as fast as you can in place.0

My 3D pedometer doesn't always count them unless my arms or shoulders move back and forth a little. Maybe that'll work with a Fitbit, too.0

Interesting, I may have to try that! However, I would be so paranoid of it coming loose and falling out of my pant leg without me realizing it. I believe I am being gifted a Fitbit HR for Xmas or my bday, though. I'll try it on my underwear, as I know it won't do so hot on my pants. I tried clipping my knife to my yoga pants and it just fell off0 -
We don't have a Wii, just a PS4. The only use it gets from me is using it as a DVD player. I wanted an XBOX Kinect once, but that was a fleeting moment. We would have nowhere to put it with the PS4 anyways.0

Great job with your walking even if you are not getting enough credit for it! I had similar issue with my zip and One and I could only keep track of them if I kept them on my bra, too, so I was kind of stuck. Hope you get the HR as a gift as you are expecting! I've got the Charge, which is very similar to the HR, and love everything about it. I'm betting the only thing you'll miss about the Zip is that you don' t have to worry about charging it. I know you still need to change the batteries, but no where near as often as you need charge the other devices. At least with HR, it's a relatively easy charging process.0

I know there are so many Fitbit posts on here, about which is better, but what made you get the Charge over the HR?0 -
can you attach it to a wristband for when you walk in place? If you are like me you'd move your arms so it would pick up that movement. Just a thought.0

If I'm not mistaken, Sony still has playstation move. It's the PlayStation version of xbox kinect, and i think it's compatible with your ps4.0 -

I could, but I honestly don't have any. I don't really wear jewelry except my wedding ring, necklace knife(on my walks), the occasional once in a blue moon necklace, and SOMETIMES earrings. I'm pretty boring.0 -

What in the world of world's is that? I will have to check it out when I'm not working I don't play games what so ever, so I have no idea whats out there. I only know about the Xbox Kinect because my Mom has one0 -

When the wii came out, there was increased market interest in physically interactive gaming. Both Microsoft and Sony generated products to capitalize. So, the "xbox kinect" and the "PlayStation move" were introduced to compete against Nintendo's wii for physically interactive gaming.

My charge hr will count walking in place....but when I had the zip, it was less accurate.
I did jumping jacks. It counted those....plus I bet I burned extra calories0 -
Yes & no. You need a bit of constant motion (5-10 steps) for it to start counting. I think this is to avoid counting extra steps for random body movement. I've noticed that for walking in place, if you're not moving your hips much: it won't 'start' counting. So the way around this? Move more. Really work your hips, or jog in place which has more movement also. MOving more means doing more good for your body anyhow.
PS-I use a One which should track similarly to the Zip.Kimegatron wrote: »Hello!

I tried walking in place a few times and my FitBit one counted the step fine.
I have a question.
Lately (because all the streets are frozen and it is too dangerous to walk outside) I have been walking inside my living room, making an 8 figure.
Does anyone know if walking inside is as good as good as walking outside, step-wise? Of course it's better outside, if you consider the hills. But if I were to walk always straight, without any kind of hills or bumps (outside) would it be the same as walking inside?
I apologize for the dumb question!0 -
Mine only counts actual walking. I had the One and it was a lot more willing to count walking around the house than my current Charge but neither will count walking in place.0
-
I had a Flex and now the Charge HR. Both count walking in place as steps.0
-
I have the One and it counts walking in place (which is good since I'm at a desk all day and walk in place while I work)0
