Diet and kids?

Any good snacks that you have picked up on that are good for you and that your kids also enjoy. My kitchen is filling up because everyone eats so many different foods. It would be great for a variety of reasons if I could find healthy snacks that all would enjoy. Any ideas?

Cheese and crackers. Celery and peanut butter. Yogurt. Carrots. Bananas. Apples. Peanuts. Grapes. All kinds of things. I'm not really sure what you are looking for. Anything can be a snack and there is really no need to complicate things. Kids will eat what you have around. If you have healthy snacks they will eat healthy snacks. If you have nothing but cookies and chips that is what they will eat. You can still eat cookies and chips, too. They may not be nutritionally dense but they are tasty. Just watch your portion sizes.

My kids eat everything! Home popped popcorn, veggies, cans of tuna, baked apples, and if they want cookies they bake them. Even the 7yo can bake a batch himself. My kids eat what I buy or they make their own. I can eat what they eat as long as I track it. No need for a huge grocery bill. They need to learn that healthy choices should be the norm and treats should be somewhat limited. If only I could eat the serving sizes those crazy growing bodies need. I am jealous of them sometimes!! Lol!0

I always have whatever fruit is in season out and easy to grab as a snack and a bag of baby carrots and hummus are always in the fridge. I also keep small portioned bags of nuts in the pantry that are easy to grab. Occasionally I will make oatmeal cookies or kale chips. Eating many different foods is not a bad thing but to keep sanity rotated what is offered and keep it seasonal.0

How old are your kids? The way I was raised, we ate what my mom bought or cooked. Period. If you're giving them healthy stuff, there's no harm in it. They need to learn to eat well and have snacks sparingly. Now, my brother truly disliked peas, must have been that way since a baby because that was the only exception.0

I like the Australian ideas for involving children in the kitchen.

As they get involved in cooking, children get bolder and are exposed to new tastes and textures.0 -
My kids enjoy pretzels, animal crackers, string cheese, all fruit, carrots, celery and ranch or peanut butter. I also have some chips and cookies on hand for them, I just make sure to buy the kinds I like the least so I'm less likely to indulge.0

The basics.
Fruit
Veggies
Yogurt
Nuts
Dried cranberries/raisin boxes
Peanutbutter! (smooth & crunchy because it adds variety. For combing with fruit I like crunchy but on sandwiches I love smooth!)
_______
Granola
Pita Chips
Brownie/Cookie thins
dole fruit cups in water0 -
My children are in their thirties now but I liberally used dips to tempt them to eat their veggies. They both still prefer their veggies raw. Back then ranch dressing was new, and cool. I also used Cheez Whiz.
I've been baking with my granddaughter since she was a little girl. It's our thing. She's been learning and growing ever since. Some nights she is in charge of dinner, and she often prepares the salad when mom is making the main meal. Now fifteen, she recently made a strawberry shortbread, all from scratch.0 -
My kids eat what I eat. They like apples/peanut butter or cashew butter or sunbutter; celery with nut butters; carrots and hummus; greek yogurt with chia seeds and honey; pistachios (they like to crack them open; cheesesticks; half a turkey pita for a larger snack; avocado and tofu cubes; steel cut quick cook oats with honey.0

When I was on Weight Watchers my children refused to follow me on some of my food fashions. Like a months-long love affair with Quark.0

For snacks my kids eat cheese sticks/mini babybels, pretzels, goldfish, yogurt, fruit, cashews (they don't like other nuts), random cookies/crackers.
They're a bit picky though, but their weight is on the low side, so *shrug*. I just make sure that if they've had a couple cookies or some crackers, the next snack is more nutritious. I'd bake healthier treats but then I'd be the only one eating them0 -
Thanks for all of the ideas...my son has a peanut allergy so all of the peanuts are out, but I came away with some stuff I am going to try. This was very helpful.0

My son is only 19 months and we have encouraged him thus far to eat what we eat. Sometimes we eat things he does not necessarily like, but we don't force it. Typically it's just the mood of the day. The only thing I can think of that we typically can't get him to eat is pears (lol idk why either). Now, if I can get my spouse to quit bringing in the junk like chips we'll be doing awesome. I have been starting a new thing where I keep snacks for everyone. It's a bowl in our pantry. Maybe limiting the amount will "force" members to eat what is available? Fresh fruit is always available in our house in a bowl on our kitchen counter, and I try to keep veggies that can be snacked on as well...I am also currently trying a new method of grocery shopping where I pre-make my weekly menu to fit what is already available at our house, this worked good until I went on a shopping trip with my husband... we bought lots of junk we didn't need. I think I will make the trips from now on0
