A few days is too early to tell. Are you trying to maintain?

Not sure. Have you been eating a lot of foods that are high in sodium. It could be just water weight.

Did you go straight from eating your "diet" calorie intake to your maintenance intake? Because that can cause your body to temporarily freak out a bit and you may see a gain. Its a better idea to slowly work up to maintenance to give your body a chance to adjust.

It usually takes 2-3 days for our bodies to catch up to changes in the way we are eating. Try eating maintenance calories for at least a week and see what happens. Make sure when you up the calories that you aren't upping your sodium alot.

    BTW, I eat between 2200-2400 a day.

A few pounds of muscle would take an incredible amount of time and effort to build. Likely water.
  • I did it gradually, 1300-1400 then 1500-1800 then now 2000-2200.. But i fidget like crazy.. Can't stop my left leg from shaking.. :))
    I'm 5'4 and 47 kg.. I started maintaining since last month. :)

I agree that it's way early to tell. I'd give it a good few weeks. I keep a graph of my weigh-ins and concentrate on tracking the trend, not the week to week spikes and ups and downs. I've also set a "maintenance zone" 2kg wide so that I don't obsess on being "X" on the scale :)

    Good luck with maintenance!!

Edit to add: I eat 2000-2300 calories a day.

As always it will depend on WHAT you eat as well as how much! Try it out for a week or so then adjust as necessary.

2100 NET sounds like a lot when the daily recommended allowance by the WHO for women is 2000

We are all different. And their recommendations might be 2000, but for me 2000 is too low. I work on my feet, go to the gym, etc. I'm rarely sitting around and doing nothing. So, I burn more calories than someone who sits at a desk 8 hrs a day. Once I upp'ed my calories to where I am - I lost weight and feel better too. Keep in mind that it is a RECOMMENDATION -- not a set in stone, you must eat this many calories per day kind of thing.

I have been trying to find the right maintenance calories for several months now. There was a short period where I was maintaining and then continued losing - now down 10-12 pounds and honestly a little too thin. Rather than focus on gaining back at this point, I am still working on finding the right balance to maintain. I eat very "clean" and although I do have a job in an office, I workout everyday and do quite a bit of walking just commuting around NYC. It's definitely harder to maintain than it was losing, but even harder to think about HAVING to put on weight at some point after years of a totally different mindset.

Just curious, any maintainers who are 5'2" (barely) and active willing to share maintenance calories? Right now I am up to 1800 - 1900 although based on some of the calories noted in this post, it sounds like there are a lot of women out there who are closer to the 2300 range.

    Thanks,

  • If you google "calculating weight maintenance calories", you can find some great tools to help you calculate an estimate of the calorie intake that would be right for you. I didn't want to post anything specifically because I wasn't sure if some of the sites I found are competing sites with this one, and that is against forum rules.

I'm maintaining around 2300, and no calculator would ever predict that! I have always lost weight easily, but never knew why... So now I do!
