Weight loss

I have been on a 1500 calorie diet for the last few weeks and this past week(Fri-today) I stayed around 1400 calories, but I gained 4.1 pounds in a week. I started researching yesterday on body types. I discovered that I'm primarily an endomorph body type. I also found an article on how to eat for your body type(25% carbs, 35% proteins, 40% fats) I'm thinking of dropping my calorie goal to 1200 and incorporate that percentage for my intake since last week I had intake calories of 1200-1300 most of the week. Anyone have any suggestion, advice or input? Thanks in advance.

are you weighing and measuring everything? Have you started a new exercise program/schedule? How much weight do you have to lose? How'd you calculate your calorie deficit?

You may want to give it more time, to see if this was a real gain or just temporary water weight. TOM/hormones, sodium, stress, interruption to sleep schedule, new or more intense workout routines are some reasons for water weight gain.

I'm new to calculating....not really use to it. I did hurt my knee about a week or so ago and it swells by the end of the day if I've done my walking. Two, I haven't had my blood pressure pills that are a diuretic since monday....I don't really know what the particular cause is of my issue. I'm attempting to lose at least 115 more lbs. I'm weighing and measuring my food better now than I was the first week.

I think changing your calorie goal based on a single week is probably premature. Have you had any losses at all while on 1,500? How are you measuring your food?

There is little evidence that "eating for your body type" is a real thing.

Dropping your calorie goal will more than likely lead to increased frustration. GIVE IT TIME! What constitutes a few weeks? That's not nearly enough time to see results. Long-lasting weight loss is SLOW. Don't get caught up in the hype that you can/should lose 10 pounds in two weeks. That's merely designed to sell stuff. Get a food scale and weigh/measure everything you put in your mouth. Chances are you may be eating more than you think. Stay off the scale for a while. Weight fluctuates daily. Don't weigh yourself until you feel your clothes getting a little looser, then check your progress. The less you have to lose, the slower it may go. BE PATIENT!!

The knee injury/swelling scream 'water weight'. Do take care of the injury, follow doctor's orders and such in terms of activity while it heals.

A good lesson to learn: weight loss is not linear. What does this mean? It means that your body is not perfectly efficient. What you do today does not have an instant effect tomorrow. Some weeks you will lose, some maintain, and some even gain. Does not mean you're doing anything wrong. Over time you should see a downward trend. If you weight less today than 30 days ago (assuming you've been at this for 30+ days) then you're on the right path.

I weighed 290 when I began this journey in September. I'm now at 274.9. So it is true that that I'm better than before. I want to get healthy to ensure that my health doesn't effect me having children. I have pcos and learned that the extra body weight produces estrogen so I haven't been regular. Got my first cycle since weight loss at the end of October.

Personally I would give it much more time. I would post my weight loss chart if I could manage it easily from my phone. I have been losing and gaining the same 5 or so pounds for almost a month, and suddenly the past two days 8lbs are off. Its about learning YOUR body's pattern. Maybe it takes yours a few weeks to register that weight loss is happening. There are just so many factors at play and I believe time is the best way to figure it out.

I also believe eating for a body type is crap science.

It sounds like a lot of things may be going on here: you've got an injury, your cycle is starting back up, you aren't currently on one of your medications. All of these things may cause weight fluctuations like the one you saw over the last week. I would recommend sticking with your original goal, staying on plan, and focusing on accurate food measurement.

I would stick with your original plan. When I started losing and it triggered my period, my weight started going all wonky and losses slowed way down. It took awhile for it to level back out, but it has now... Consistency is key.

I would say this could easily account for sufficient water retention relative to the previous week to account for the gain.

Also, if your doctor has prescribed diuretics for your blood pressure, it seems like you ought to be taking them. (I'm saying this out of genuine concern for your health.)

*disclaimer - I did not read all the responses on the thread* so if my answer is duplicate, I apologize.
In order for you (OP) to have gained 4 pounds (real pounds) in 1 week you would have had to eat 14,000 calories over your TDEE for the week. I find that CRAZY. It is possible that it is water weight, hormone fluctuations etc. but most likely not 4.1 pounds of fat. If I may, rely more on measurements for progress than the scale. I used to weigh myself every day and it becomes obsessive. Now I weigh once a month, on the same day each month and I take measurements. Good luck to you.

I would be considered endomorph too and thought I had to eat low carb. Turns out I don't, I just have to absolutely sure I'm eating at a deficit by weighing and accurate logging.

Thanks for the feedback you guys. I appreciate it. And I am going to pick up my medication today, lynn_glenmont. I just didn't make the time like I should have at the beginning of the week....that's a shame on me moment :#
