Is the act of sex not cardio?

Please do not pre-judge here... But...how come we have every possible calorie burner and not the most widely used, or practiced? (

Hard breathing doesn't always equate to "cardio". Not to mention that most sessions last 7-15 minutes on average.

It adds up, since everyone knows that time spent doing dishes only counts as a quarter when it's reward time.

From the New England Journal of Medicine. January 31, 2013; 368:446-454 (full text):

    Sexual Activity and Energy Expenditure
Myth number 7: A bout of sexual activity burns 100 to 300 kcal for each participant.

The energy expenditure of sexual intercourse can be estimated by taking the product of activity intensity in metabolic equivalents (METs),18 the body weight in kilograms, and time spent. For example, a man weighing 154 lb (70 kg) would, at 3 METs, expend approximately 3.5 kcal per minute (210 kcal per hour) during a stimulation and orgasm session. This level of expenditure is similar to that achieved by walking at a moderate pace (approximately 2.5 miles [4 km] per hour). Given that the average bout of sexual activity lasts about 6 minutes, a man in his early-to-mid-30s might expend approximately 21 kcal during sexual intercourse. Of course, he would have spent roughly one third that amount of energy just watching television, so the incremental benefit of one bout of sexual activity with respect to energy expended is plausibly on the order of 14 kcal.

Probably most of us are having sex as a pretty regular activity so it is accounted for in our regular activity or it isn't enough of a calorie burn to bother logging it.
You can look up the amount of calories it burns and create an exercise under "my exercises" on the MFP web site and log it if you want. http://calorielab.com/burned
You can ask MFP your question if it hasn't been covered already. https://myfitnesspal.desk.com/

Just say no to cardio. I prefer it in a manner which makes it a combination of strength training and gymnastics.

I don't even log my most sexual looking heavy lifts. I have no idea why you would try to log this.

I don't have an answer for you... but some of these responses are hilarious! I want to know where this 7-15 minute stuff is coming from... I'm lucky to get 5 minutes. Really, really lucky. :p

My thoughts exactly. Add a little kink and it can be zumba, crossfit or roller derby.
But this is a funny thread. I wouldn't count it though. Just part of the BMR of being human ;-)

Cleaning and walking are both exercises available for logging. Lol

I always log it as belly dancing. Figure the muscles are similar?
