Eating Before or After?

So many mixed ideas on this theory.
Personally, the first thing I do as soon as I open my eyes is do my WiiFit Plus routine. Afterwards, I normally don't eat for another few hours or so because I'm not hungry. So, are you supposed to eat before exersising or after?

I think you have to do what feels best for you.
I have a protein shake after I get up, then I go to the gym, and eat breakfast afterwards. When I work out at night I do so before I eat dinner because I feel uncomfortable working out with a full stomach.0 -
As you have mentioned, there are not only various opinions but various research findings as well. SO: Get your own data for your own conclusions. Explore, experiment, observe, document. Draw conclusions. Repeat to see if you get the same outcome. That becomes FACT for you.
I have to eat something before and after working out, there is no way I can power through my workouts otherwise, I have tried using the methodology I described above. I have my personal FACT for this question, See my diary, its open. Keep in my mind I employ a high intensity, brutal bodybuilding routine. Lots of glycogen utilization but lots of peak cariovascular events following sets, especially peak ones.0 -
I wake up, do a scoop of whey protein, wait about 30 mins, workout, have recovery drink, take shower, drink shakeology with another scoop of protein, then on to the rest of the day.0

There is a lot of research and different findings on this. However, for the most part you should eat before and after working out. Have some kind of carb easily digested before you work out so you don't automatically rip into your glycogen stores, you'll be able to work out longer. Then afterwards it's important to eat something within 15-30 minutes, your body is in a prime state to absorb and use nutrients. Do something that combines both carbs and protein. Maybe a bagel with PB on it or apple with cheese, etc. In the end, what you eat, when you eat it, and how often comes down to your own experimentation. But I do firmly believe you should be eating something before and after to get your metabolism going, get some glucose in your blood to burn, and then refuel afterwards. If you're not eating anything and then waiting a few hours you're missing out on the boost your metabolism gets from eating and could also be causing your body to break down it's own muscle for fuel if your workout is strenuous enough. It doesn't have to be anything huge or heavy, experiment and see what makes you feel good and what doesn't0

Thanks! Gotta love sports nutrition! But even in textbooks the numbers are always in ranges, never one set thing. Personalizing your diet and your workouts are the best way to see results and continue to stay motivated. There are no cookie cutter solutions.0
