Hi Guys,

Its getting so much colder ..... Brrrrr!

Do you guys struggle to workout at the gym in the winter like myself?

Do you give the gym a miss for the winter period?

Workout at home etc?

Just wanted to get a feel for what everyone does when its getting colder outside. My motivation sort of goes to be honest.

When I lived where it got cold for winter, I took spinning classes. For me, paying money for something gave me motivation to go. And while I was there for the spinning classes, I made an evening of it ... warm up with a walk on the treadmill, take the 60 min spinning class, get on the rowing machine and lift weights.

I would do that a couple times a week, then do stuff at home or outside the rest of the week.

I love going to the gym, but we're rural enough that there are no gyms convenient for everyday workouts. We just bought a used and reconditioned gym quality elliptical to use at home when the snow flies. We parked it in front of the TV rather than in the basement where it's out of sight and out of mind. Now I just watch the morning news while moving instead of from bed.

I'll be walking outside until the snow flies. We don't have sidewalks so it gets a bit dangerous once there is snow. I have a bunch of workout shows recorded on the DVR once I can't walk. There is always shoveling snow too. Unfortunately where I live the gym is just not an option.

Silly me I learned to run in the dead of winter. I have all my winter gear and ice cleats, and the snow is just starting to fall this afternoon. Frankly it was tougher learning to run in the heat.

There's also the pool, steam rooms and hot tubs. Which hubby and I took advantage of yesterday.

I absolutely hate running and working out outside in the winter. If that is my only workout, I won't do it.

I workout at lunch, with a gym in a building next door.

Or play hockey, or indoor soccer.

I try to get new music as much as possible as something to look forward to.

Exercising in the winter keeps you warm.

Have to admit that I'm the kind of person that slacks during the winter. The cold and snow does not make me want to go to gym, especially when I am working outside all day and long drive home. Would rather go home and sit under the covers. I just try to stick to my calories and go when I have the motivation. When Spring time rolls around I hit the gym again. A couple years ago I did have a nice elliptical to use during the winter that I bought cheap off Craigslist, maybe that is an option for you? If you are lifting you can buy a weight set from someone who bought it on a whim and barely used it.

This. I tend to work out a bit more in the winter just to warm up. Plus, my treat after a workout is 10 - 15 min. in the sauna. Much better than the super hot days of summer. I struggle to workout when it's hot.
