Lately I haven't had the motivation to workout on my own and I haven't felt inspired and I don't really enjoy working out to begin with and its been a struggle. I was wondering if anyone could give me some tips on how to be inspired to workout?

Find something new or different to catch your attention. I always find great deals for classes on groupon, and since I prepaid for them I know I'll stick with it for the whole class package.

Absolutely you need to find something you LIKE and WANT to do. There are hundreds of things to choose from. You just have to find "your thing"!

Don't wait to be inspired or motivated, then you won't have to depend on these things when they inevitably go away. Are you inspired to brush your teeth or wash yourself, or go to work (or school), or do you do these things because just need to be done? Discipline trumps motivation any day.
  • I actually have the same issue that you have, but I am trying to stay motivated. I have been struggling with it as well, and it really hasn't been easy for me. I try to do things that work best for me, and since everybody is different then do something that you like and want to do. I can't begin to explain how much I hate to workout, but if I don't push myself I will never reach my goal. You may end up liking things that you thought you would never like for me it is running, but it all depends on what you want to do.

Why? When you have your why figured out, you'll see how as just part of the path. So, ask yourself, why do you care about getting more fit? Once you have that answer, make a commitment to make that your future. Then exercise won't be a "workout" but rather a thing you are doing to meet a specific goal.

For me, it has to be something I like doing or else I feel like I'm wasting time even if I'm working toward a goal (I know...it's not a waste if the goal is important to you, it's just a personal mental block that's hard for me to get over). I'm about to enter a really challenging time of year because two of my favorite things are walking and swimming, and Minnesota winters make that difficult. Another thing I like is dancing, especially social dance like swing and Lindy Hop. I figured I would look up some dance videos for days when it's too cold outside. What do you like to do? I second checking groupon. I'm not big on classes, but I've found groupons for things like kayaking that give me my outdoor fix and a workout.

I don't think, or care, about whether I like it or not, I just do it. But if I really hit a wall I change it up. For example, adding weight work out to the cardio during the week, using an elliptical rather than a stair master, using cardio DVDs rather than running or biking, and on and on.

There are lots of choices what to do as a form of exercise- except "nothing". That should not be one of your options. You remove it by making a commitment to exercise, rather than waiting to get motivated. I've regularly worked out for over 40 years. It needs to become a way of life. Like someone else said, do you need motivation to brush your teeth or do you just get up off your a** and do it every night of your life?

Group training or somthing social might help your motivation.. social team sport, dance, group classes, walking buddy, walking a dog even!

Finding something you think is really fun, or having a big goal attached to it will help (for me, this is martial arts, and now I want to go back to strength training so I do tournaments and be strong).

Things like digging the garden and hiking are about something other than the exercise... might you enjoy someting like that?
