Hello,
I'm almost 50 and I'm tired of being heavy. I quit 'dieting' years ago, that's when i first picked up MyFitnessPal. Logging and knowing what I'm eating is a good thing. I've been back to logging for the last 2 weeks. I've not gotten on a scale (well, not true, I was at the gym and was fully clothed, late afternoon after drinking loads of water. The number was horrific. Even in the morning, it would be a bad number. But the whole Number game is what I'm done with. I know when I'm heavy, I'll know when I'm not.) My GOAL is to not feel heavy. To be Happy within myself. I don't need a number to tell me when that happens. Thankfully, I don't have any medical issues (yet).

As usual, when I first start logging, I'm 'cheating'. I log too many calories, by rounding up my portion size, etc. So, I start out by being hungry. But I've levelled off now. Staying within my calorie range (well, under, but only just). I'm also giving myself a day to relax. Go out with friends (or stay in with friends and drink 3 bottles of wine! eek Something that won't happen every week!).

I've started HIIT training. wow I have a long way to go to improve! I'm also a fencer which is also an excellent cardio workout. I also do Yoga.

I'm here to find friends to play with and people to continue to challenge me.

Hi Skrumpy, I totally feel your frustration, as Im sure many people here do!! I have found some of the options on the premium version extremely helpful. There is a mode where you can track not just your calories, but any three components of your diet. I chose Fat, Sugar, and Protein, as I knew I needed to do better in each of these categories. I found this extremely helpful, as MFP was actually motivating me to change what I ate during the day to meet these requirements.

I'm not saying sign up for life, but you may find that your sugar and fat intake are way higher than you expect and your protein significantly lower. I thought I was eating pretty good until I started using this mode. I've lost 14lbs total in the last 6 weeks, without exercise (due to a permanent back injury). It's just an idea, and of course I'd be happy to befriend you for mutual support. All the best, Anna

    Thanks Anna,
I do look at the fat and sugar intake. It's good to know. Well done on the 14 lbs! Good for you, and I'll bet you can feel the difference!

I did Atkins years ago, and I learned a lot about food and how I react to things like Carbs and fat. This last 2 weeks, i've been hungry, but I liked it. But the novelty of it is wearing off, and i know that the calories need to go a long way, so they have to be the right calories. Enough protein/fat to keep the hunger away and not too many carbs to cause cravings.

It's a pity that it took me decades to figure these things out...

Sorry to hear about your back injury.

    Best,
    sK

Hi there! I sometimes do the same thing when it comes to logging. I sent you a friend request.
