Ground flaxseed..how do you use it?

I just bought ground flaxseed and want to start incorporating it into my daily food intake, about 1-2 tbsp a day. I eat yogurt maybe 3-4 times a week so I will try and sprinkle it on that. I also eat cold cereal like cheerios most mornings and the package says to sprinkle it on that as well. Any other ideas of food you sprinkle it on or mix it with on a daily basis? I am going to start using it when I bake but I don't bake that often. I don't eat oatmeal or smoothies often either so those wouldn't be good choices for me. If you eat flaxseed, what do you eat it with?!

    I mix it into lasagne, queso sauce, homemade baked beans, smoothies...

    I use it in my baking. I bake muffins and freeze them for my kiddos to have on so I'll include it in those. I almost LIVE on oats and smoothies, so I do use it those...daily.

    A friend of mine sprinkled it on her salads too. I personally have never used it.

    I sometimes sprinkle it in salads, add it to smoothies, and eat it with my oat pancake in the morning

    I had a really good recipe for making a flaxseed bun (like bread) using an egg and flaxseed and a bit of baking soda - cooks in the microwave in a couple of minutes, you cut it open and use it like bread, really brilliant! Let me know if you need me to find you the recipe...

    any kind of sauce, or spread. Think spaghetti sauce, salad dressing, in a sandwich, etc. Just make sure you check the expiration date because once flaxseed is ground it starts losing its nutritional power so buy in small amounts and use quickly or buy whole seeds and grind them yourself. But DO NOT eat whole flaxseeds, your body can't get to the healthy fats inside so it's useless.

    Stirred into soup.

    It goes in just about everything as you can see. I love to mix it in my yogurt too :tongue:

  • Flaxseed meal is great stuff. I put it 2 Ts in my smoothie each day. As a vegan, I also use it as an egg substitute in baking: Mix 1 tablespoon flax meal with 3 tablespoons boiling water. After about a minute, you've got an egg white consistency material that goes well in muffin mixes or other baked stuff.

    One suggestion: Buy flax seeds instead of meal and keep it in the fridge. Then, grind it yourself when you need it. I use an inexpensive (12 bucks) electric coffee grinder that I keep just for my flax meal. The nutrients are fresher and the oil doesn't have a chance to get rancid if you grind it yourself. At the very least, keep your meal in the fridge.

    sauces are good places to hide it. if your having tomato sauce, sprinkle a bit in there. if you eat meat, add to meatloaf

    I slip into anything homemade...breads, meatloaf, muffins, etc. Like someone else said..great egg substitute.

    Thanks everyone for the suggestions...i definitely didn't think about using it in salads, salad dressings, or sauces so I will keep that in mind in addition to using it in yogurts, smoothies, and cereals! Thanks again!
