And what happens in six months? You should move at your own pace. It has taken me eight months to lose 48 pounds, so what they are asking might be doable but it has to be doable for you and sustainable.

There are no tips and tricks to weight loss. Barring any allergies or medical-related food issues, eat what you like at a caloric deficit and you'll get there. The trick is in your mind, getting yourself on board and just doing it.

There are mistakes that people commonly make that cause them to not lose weight that we might be able to spot if you change your Diary Sharing settings to Public: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/account/diary_settings
  • Just do it. Just get back on track. Craving sweets, drink tea. Those Jolly Ranchers powder drink mix or Crystal Light are great for helping a sweet tooth at just 10 calories. There are no tricks to this you have to just get right back to it.

I struggle too! I agree with the "just do it" advice. It seems silly but it's what works. I fell off track and had to really set my mind to not give in. I started Saturday and have since lost 1 lb. there aren't any tricks to get back on track, in my opinion.

Good luck! You know you can do this, you've already successfully lost weight.

Nothin' to it but to do it! :)

Also, I had a boss that used to tell us "Have a bad day, don't have a bad week. Have a bad week, don't have a bad month. Have a bad month, don't have a bad year." Things happen, just don't let it completely derail your efforts!

Measure your waist to hip ratio, not just your weight. Your body may be changing more then you are noticing. Seeing change in inches can really help when you don't see a change on the scale. Log everything and log is accurately. Increase your activity everyday in every way you can. 70lbs in 6 months is a very ambitious goal. I'm not going to tell you what you can or can't do, because you should listen to your doctor however, you should also not feel like you failed if you can only lose 25 in that time. Focus on changing your lifestyle and taking care of yourself the best way you can because you deserve to be taken care of. The weight will come off when you develop new habits. Stay strong!

Congrats on the loss so far!!! Everyone has their ups and downs with weight loss--it's never a completely linear process. What matters is the overall downward trend. You can't expect a loss every time you step on the scale. My weight can fluctuate as much as 5 pounds from one day to the next--it depends on what I ate, how much I exercised, how much sodium ...

And it takes time, weight loss is a marathon, not a sprint. 100 pounds in six months is a lot. Be patient with yourself and proud of your loss, each pound is a victory. It may take you longer than six months to get where you want to go, but you can get there!

I'm not sure why your doctor feels your weight loss needs to be so aggressive. That's over a 10 lb a month loss. If you set your goals for maybe 1.5 or even 1 lb a week loss maybe it would be easier and keep you from having as many cravings and you would still be making progress.

Nice of the Doctor to set an unrealistic goal :/ well thank goodness they can't force you to lose that much that quickly. If I were you I'd set a goal to lose 40-50 pounds in 6 months. It's obtainable and you won't feel like you are are starving now or failing when you can't reach an unrealistic goal. Personally I'd like to question these two people and see how they even thought that was realistic.
As for the weight loss congrats!!! You're doing great. We all have set backs but just shrug it off and keep going. Start new today. Move more and eat less. You can do this! I've had times when I didn't lose or I gained. Sure it was frustrating but you get back on the horse and try again. It's taken me 1.5 years to lose 74 lbs and I still have 50 to go but I know it's not going to happen quickly. I will win this race by being the tortoise. Slow and steady

I doubt your doctor 'gave you six months' to get to goal. He/she probably set an estimated 'goal' to track how you are progressing but by no means 'MUST' you reach that specific number or else.

Look - the truth is, there are no tricks and tips. You know how to drop the pounds because you've successfully done it before. Getting on track is down to you and I promise you DO have it in you. Sometimes you just have to dig deep. Eat at a calorie deficit, move more if you can and importantly of all, stay positive. Good luck.

Not sure what your diet consists of now but check out the eat more 2 weigh less group here on MFP. I'm trying that approach this time around and definitely have found that my cravings are almost nonexistent and feel overall much better. The one caveat is that since I'm eating at a much smaller deficit, I am losing weight much slower than my previous diet attempts. On the other hand, my prior attempts have always ended up with me regaining the weight back in the long term so clearly have not worked. Wanted a more balanced sustainable Weightloss this time around.
Don't lose heart. You can do it!

Just do it. Drink a lot of water, which takes away the hungry feeling. Exercise, which also takes away the hungry feeling. Eat whatever you like, but keep the portions small. You can do it.
  • I understand just do it and when i meant tips and tricks i just meant different diets. I was previously on a strict 800 calorie meal replacement diet which was helpful and made me lose so much. Now that ive reintroduced foods its trying to find the right foods the right portions ect. I recently found out i have MS scared out of my mind and feel im maybe over eating to cope. The reason they said the 6 month goal im shirt says the weight has no where to go it is causing joint pain and chest pain. I am no longer taking metformin for pre diabetic but now with new health issues i cant be as active as i have dizzy spells out of no where i lost my driving have had seceral falls. Just trying to see what was and not working for people. Thank you all for your relpies

Have you considered 5:2 or other forms of Intermitant fasting?

Weigh your food, count calories and eat at a deficit to lose 1-2lb/week (just plug your stats into MFP and log exercise). There are no "right" foods, outside of the foods that make you feel full and provide a variety of nutrients. For most people that is a good balance of proteins and fats, and the rest filled up with carbs. I personally eat 2 slices of homemade pizza every day for lunch, and then for dinner have something like chicken breast and 2 sides (like veggies, fruits, or grains). I then typically top it off with a snack and then go to bed and repeat.

If you switched from a liquid diet that your doctor put you on to a real food diet I'm not surprised your weight shot up. You are probably now eating more (which means there is more waste in your body) and possibly eating more sodium, which increases water retention. Combine that with possibly replenishing your glycogen levels which also means more water retention. None of that is fat, which is what you want to eliminate so it isn't a big deal. When I go from losing weight to maintenance I shoot up 2-5lb, but that is ok.

Also, Your typos make it hard to understand what you are saying. I'm not sure why the doctors want you to lose so much over 6 months. A realistic goal for most people is 30-40lb, as that would allow you to lose 1.2-1.5lb/week over the timeframe. I mean, you could hit as much as 50lb in 6 months at 2lb/week, but is hard and is slightly above the suggested healthy range. Maybe talk to your doctor about the goal, why it is so aggressive, and see if you can just eat at a 1.5lb/week deficit with a ~40lb loss goal.

You've done well so far. You haven't gained back too much. You can still take control. If you can, get yourself a pair of kitchen scales so you can weigh out your ingredients if you are cooking at home.

One good tip is to have a small treat everyday. I usually have enough calories left each day to have a 99 calorie chocolate mousse or something similar. It actually motivates me to eat healthy as I'm thinking about my dessert or yogurt that I get to eat after dinner. >:)

Add a lot of friends here, when I see other people eating healthy and sticking to their calorie goals it motivates me.

Stalk the success stories forum. Most of my cravings happen when I'm bored (mindless eating) so I distract myself by reading about people who have lost weight and how they did it. That usually kills the cravings.

Chew gum? Again, distracts from cravings. Will add anymore if I can think of it.

    Anna xx

I hope you read this in the spirit in which it was intended, which is to help you to be easier to understand. These were all misspelled, and do make it hard to read your posts. Maybe use a browser that underlines typos?
    ect
    seceral
    relpies

To a lesser extent, not using the apostrophe makes your posts hard to read as well:
    ive
    its
    cant

That, and other missing punctuation. I could have said poor grammar overall instead of typos, but I'm not great at it myself. I try my best. I'd rather read and understand what someone is trying to get across than have to guess.

Sorry about the MS diagnosis--that would scare the beejesus out of me! ((((HUG)))) Forward is the only way, though. Please try and find another coping skill than eating, though I totally get that! Walking, blogging, music, something. Do you have the option to see a therapist to talk about your diagnosis? You could ask for some coping skills to help you. Exercise, journaling and music work for me.

As for diet, maybe try with different macro ratios. A little more protein helped me. My macro ratio is 35%c/35%p/30%f on an ideal day. I also make sure I get some good fiber. And I take supplements--my doc thinks I'm the only person in SoCal with a Vitamin D deficiency. I wear a ton of sunscreen and avoid the sun. I do have great skin, though!

I'm sure there's some good support communities for MS online. The radio DJ I listen to (32 year old female) every weekday morning has MS (she was diagnosed years and years ago) and she talks abut it a lot (she's very positive and quite inspiring). She's on 6am-10am weekdays on 104.3 MyFM in LA. You can find the station on the I Heart Radio app if you want. It's a funny show and they have great celebrity guests.
  • Thank you so much! I have i heart ill check her out. Found out 2 weeks ago the doctor called me at work i swear the world stood still. Since then i have appointments everyday a different doctor for this that and the other. Doc said i shoud stop working until we get a right medication ect. I do see a therapist which helps see her again monday actually! I was able to control cravings when i was on my liquid diet by water or gum but not sure guess emotions cause me to self talk no i dont need it gotta get healthy then bam i ate it then hate myself after. Ill look into ratio that sounds like its effective.

Thank you for the grammer lesson if it was hard to read then please move on to someone elses post. Im on my phone and yes my grammer is poor however there are bigger fish to fry in my world instead of worring about apostropes.
