I've heard great things about them, and I'm just wondering if anyone knows anything about them or has one? thanks!

Great if you want to look nice in a tight dress, ultimately useless if you think they're going to make any permanent change to your body and, if actually worn tight enough to make anything more than a short term change, can be damaging.

The whole idea of it is squashing your bones and organs into different positions permanently so yeah, prolonged use will give results but do you want to do that to your body? !

Sexy, but they won't do anything for weight loss or body composition.
  • A modern take on the corset. If the point of one is to look sexy to attract a mate, that mate could sue for false advertising once they get the device off you ;)

    Not a fan!

Unrelated - but when I was overweight, I used to wear SPANX for nights out to create a 'slimmer' physique.
Sure, the material tightened up whatever was there (and I felt like bursting all night long!) but the excess "HAD" to go "SOMEWHERE" - and it usually did. It would 'cinch' the intended body part but make every thing else look wobbly and ODD as hell. I had a 'waist slimming' spanx and it made my waist tiny - but the excess 'fat' rolled over my bra straps! And it was so obvious. Eeeek.

i had one from marks and spencers to give a smooth line finish when i wear a dress. just big girls pants really, went all the way to my bra line. not sure if thats the same thing, i could breath and still eat in that one. very comfy

Yesterday I almost took a shot of the tabloid headlines at the grocery till to post here. Really? Is this where people get their great ideas from these days? Was the suffragette movement for nothing?

I wear a medical binder. There is nothing great about this thing. Nothing but a glorified torture device. I will be so glad to be rid of it! If a doctor did not order it, there is no reason to wear it.

When you say you have heard good things about them, do you mean word of mouth? research?

The use of a waist cincher is for aesthetic purposes only. They make you look like you have an hour glass figure. They do nothing to really help you lose weight. They may help you lose a little water weight due to sweat, but you are just squeezing the weight somewhere else! They are not a permanent solution.

With a simple google search I found some "bad" things:

    * With benefits often come risks, and waist cinchers are no exception. Some of the most common are decreased abdominal muscle tone, visceral displacement and atrophy of the abdominal walls. Other health risks include deformation of the stomach, liver and lungs and decreased breathing capacity. Because of these risks, extended use of waist cinchers is not recommended.

I am not sure why someone would want to do this to their body. It reminds me of foot binding.

As ever when this comes up I wish people would differentiate between glorified bits of elastic, waist cinchers and corsets. They're all very different things. The only one with the small potential to do any lasting damage is a fully steel boned waist training corset. Everything else is just a temporary control garment, much like Spanx.

Agreed. I have a large collection of steel boned corsets and love the effect they give but as o only wear them for a few hours at a time the effect only lasts as long as i have it on.
