Shakes will always be more boring than real food. If you need protein shakes to get enough protein, you'll just have to suck it up (pun partly intended).

I disagree with this. I love my shakes, I actually crave them as snacks. I make them in my Vitamix. Right now I'm making this one a lot- ice, 1/2 frozen banana, 1/3 cup plain greek yogurt, 2 tbsp cocoa powder, 1/8 tsp maple extract, 1/2 cup unsweetend vanilla almond milk, 1 scoop of chocolate protein powder, 2 tbsp of stevia. The shake is just under 300 calories. I blend for a few minutes until no ice granules are left so it's silky smooth like a wendy's frosty. It makes almost 40 oz!! which really fills you up. Way more filling, way less sugar and fat, and way more protein than a 1 cup portion of ice cream that would have equivalent calories. My husband actually asks me to make these for dessert now instead of junk.

I also make one with frozen mango and a different one with pumpkin puree.

I disagree with this as well. I've been drinking protein shakes for years now inbetween my meals at work and haven't gotten bored with them yet. I rotate the flavored drinks that I have.

Another thing you can do is put some food flavoring in that you can buy in the baking aisle. I have used the following food flavors to my chocolate shake with success: Banana, mint, coconut (mmmm love the coconut) almond and then I've also just added plain cinnamon to the chocolate shake and it's really good that way!

Never thought of adding cinnamon in with chocolate but I'll have to try it. I add Pb2 to my shakes for more flavor.

I sometimes add a drop or two of coconut extract to my chocolate Muscle Milk. Liquid Mounds bar! Maple and cinnamon are good too.

I find my protein shakes fill me up nicely. It also leaves me extra calories for my midmorning snack if I need it. I am a chocolate fanatic so it satisfies my chocolate craving as well.

I create my whey powder into a smoothie with kale, baby spinach, frozen blueberries, banana, flax seeds and 1 weet-bix. It has many ingredients and is therefore very filling so I have my protein shake after my workout in the morning and usually don't have my next meal until late afternoon. Hope this helps

I have a cinnabun flavored protein and mix about 2 tablespoons into some water and heat it up, then add a little milk and a 1/2 tablespoon of baking chocolate. Makes a really tasty hot chocolate drink. Yum!

I do something a little different with protein powder; I usually use chocolate, so I mix it in with Greek yogurt, usually vanilla or plain. It takes a while to mix but the result is something that looks (and tastes!) like chocolate mousse. Then I put fresh berries or whatever into it. It's awesome and very protein packed.

I drink chocolate with Peanut butter most mornings unless I know I will hit 150 grams of protein 100% for the day as insurance.

If you like gingerbread, Oxygen magazine has a recipe for a delicious Gingerbread cookie shake: 1/2 scoop vanilla protein powder, 1/2 scoop chocolate protein powder, 1/2 cup vanilla enriched Rice Dream, 1/2 cup vanilla yogurt, 1/2 tsp ginger, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1 T molasses, and ice cubes. Blend and drink ! Mmmmmm

I also like a Creamsicle, which is a cup of orange juice (I get the Healthy kids kind with extra calcium and vitamins), half a scoop of vanilla protein powder (I’ve been getting spirulina), and a lowfat vanilla yogurt. Blend and drink.

The Protein Packed Pina Colada smoothie is blended with the following ingredients: Cup cottage cheese, cup canned pineapple or cup pineapple juice, half a frozen banana, half a cup of milk, 1 T coconut, half a scoop vanilla protein powder, and a cup of ice cubes.

The Key Lime Protein Shake is blended with half an avocado, juice of a lime, 2 tsp lime zest, 1 scoop of vanilla whey protein powder, 1 T coconut, a cup of milk, and 1-2 packets of Stevia (optional).

The Chocolate Maple Shake is made by blending a cup of milk, 3 T protein powder, 1 T cocoa powder, and 1 tsp maple syrup

Last but not least, for a change, I blend a cup of orange juice (I get the Healthy kids kind with extra calcium and vitamins), half a scoop of chocolate protein powder (I’ve been getting spirulina), and a lowfat coffee yogurt. Also good!

If you like cheesecake, try a vanilla protein powder with some Lorann cheesecake flavor (in the candy-making aisle at craft stores). Really, really good. I use Trutein Vanilla bean with it and it's like a cheesecake milkshake. I mix it with either water or tea.
