I was curious about what everyone adds in their oatmeal to make it taste better.
I know its healthy, but unless its a cookie, oatmeal just doesn't do it for me.
So I need you guys to help change my mind!

I like to put in a little bit of brown sugar0
-
raisins - natures candy.. with much fiber as well..0
-
I gave up the oatmeal for grits, but used to eat them with protien powder.0
-
blueberries and bit o honey0
-
Peanut butter and cinnamon........or a little brown sugar.....dried fruit...like dried cranberries.....I think almost anything goes with oatmeal.....0
-
vanilla yogurt0
-
1/3 cup rolled oats
1/3 cup soy milk
1/2 tbsp peanut butter / or almond butter
1/2 banana
1/3 cup blueberries
Either thrown in the microwave for about two minutes or heated in a covered pan on the stove top. I mush the bananas in. I eat this when I know I won't get a chance to eat again for awhile. It ties me over until lunch for those days I don't get time for a snack.
My daughter actually requests this for breakfast.0 -

Ohh, I adore grits!
But seeing how I like salt, butter and pepper in them, I was hoping for a healthier oatmeal.
I had friend from Michigan who put sugar in his grits.
Ok, you guys are giving my some great ideas I never thought of!
It's starting to sound really good now.0 -
raisins and cinnamon
apple chunks and cinnamon
dates, nuts, and cinnamon
I'm telling you... it's all about the cinnamon!!! :laugh:0 -
I mix 1/4 cup steel cut oats with 1/8 cup bulgur and add 1/4 cup pumpkin or mixed berries or 1 TBS Trader Joes Pumpkin Butter; 1 oz chopped pecans and 2TBS brown sugar (I don't add the brown sugar if I use the Pumpkin Butter it'll make it waaaay too sweet). I agree with others, oatmeal goes with everything! Good luck!0

I go for Flax seeds, vanilla almond milk and a teaspoon of real brown sugar (to me the extra cals are worth it)0
-
Oatmeal made with bran flakes, oat bran, flax seed and then I add cinnamon, dash of maple syrup and soya milk. Sometimes I add walnuts or almonds or apples or pears...whatever I feel like that day:happy:0
-
a little SF maple syrup and some walnuts
almond slivers and dried fruit like cranberries or raisins
a small banana0 -
I use 1/2 tablespoon of honey and a dash of cinnamon. I eat it with 1 cup of strawberries.I gave up the oatmeal for grits, but used to eat them with protien powder.
Yeah I am trying but I still eat the grits because I have low iron (yeah that excuse sounds good)0 -
I go for a dash of light brown sugar and raisins ... a small pour of skim milk as well.0
-
*note to self.... Don't ask anymore food questions at night!
You're making me hungy!!!!!!
Wow, so many awesome ideas.
Now I just have to figure out which to try first!!
Thanks!!! :flowerforyou:0 -
I think the best is a little brown sugar and cinnamon. I also sometimes put a tiny bit of vanilla..

I like to use Extra Thick cut oats (Bob's Red Mill) which has much more texture than quick oats and reheats well so I can make one pot and use it for more than one day. Then I top it with lots of different things: chopped nuts, flax seed, fruit, brown sugar or splenda. I also like to top it with granola, which is also mostly oats, but adds another nice texture and sweetness so I don't need to add any sugar.0
-
Cottage cheese, yogurt, splenda, peanut butter, jelly, cinnamon, vanilla, or a mix of any of the above. Oats are as dynamic as bread!0
-
no matter what i try i can't seem to stomach the oatmeal. i prefer oat bran with a bit of splenda. its a texture thing for me.0
-
I put milk to cook, then add a sliced banana and pumpkin pie spice, mix it all up and YUMMY IN THE TUMMY!!!0
-
fat free or sugar free french vanilla creamer0
-
Wow - have you really ran 3500 miles? That's awesome!
