First year teacher Struggling with consistency

This past year has been rough for me. I just began teaching full time and am finding it hard to be consistent. I just moved to a different state and am far from family and friends. Every time I try to begin working out and eating right something comes up and I tell myself I'm too tired today or any excuse really. I actually argued to my mom that I would have to choose between being healthy or my career. Stupid I know, but I need support and help! My boyfriend only gets me more mad when he tries to be supportive. I mean the guy always like a horse and maintains a six pack. How do you guys do it?

Well I had the same problem of consistency earlier. My schedules were dependent on the weather or how crowded the gym was. I took care of this by doing routines at home itself at a fixed time using a pair of adjustable dumbbells. There are a ton of homemade body-weight exercises on YouTube that you can follow. Personally I like Fitness Blender. Congrats on your first step, all the best!

Hi, I know what you mean actually. This year is my first year teaching. I teach part time and I'm also getting a master's degree as well, so it's like the time is always pretty much fleeting. I just made the decision to actively start trying to work out more, and I've vowed to start slow with baby steps. If i can only manage a 10 minute workout, then my goal is going to be at the very least 10 minutes. From there i'm hoping that I can keep building and turn that 10 into 15 then 20 and so on.

If a student gave you excuses on why they can't achieve success, what would be your advice to them?

For me meal planning is key. It can't always be perfect but know I am having reasonably meals most days then that helps keep my calories in check and allows for the odd biscuit! I batch cook and put meals in the freezer like chilli, pasta sauce etc. I have a slow cooker too, so I can have meals ready when everyone gets in.

When you don't feel like doing anything is when you need to get up and just start doing some jumping jacks. It'll wake you up and just keep on with the workout. Even if you give it 50% it's better than not doing anything. Or just workout at your school. As soon as you get out head to the gym at school and do work.

You have to make healthy living a personal chop because you WANT to, not because you HAVE to. If you really want to get healthy, look at how you spend your time and see what adds and detracts from your goal to get healthy. Things hat don't support your health (mental, physical, emotional, spiritual) remove from your life.. Just my $.02 @nfarinella625

I get it. I have been teaching for 12 years and I am waiting for it to get easier!
But, I have given up the excuses. It took me a long time to realize that that is just what they were - excuses. I used them all - working too many hours, need family time, need time to myself, no time to eat healthy, etc.

I treat exercise and making better food choices as a priority, just like correcting papers and doing my plans! It is something I need to get done and I know it sounds cliche, but exercising does help me have more energy and I found that I am getting more done in my day.
