Can anyone suggest a more accurate way to calculate the calories I burn during various activities without the necessity of having wires attached all over my person?

If it's not a planned exercise session I would not even worry about it. I never enter things like housework, raking the leaves, walking the mall, running up and down stairs. I eat my goal calories and if I did something a little more that day, it's a plus.
But if you do want to and it is something you do everyday you could change your lifestyle to a more active one. That will give you more calories.

No wires on a heart rate monitor - just a strap and a watch.. best way to track, hands down..
  • Agreed...nothing beats a good Heart Rate Monitor and it only requires wearing a strap around your chest. I run, bike, hike, lift weight in mine and it is not uncomfortable and i know for certain how many calories I have burned while exercising.

I also agree with the comment of not tracking "everyday" stuff like cleaning the house, yardwork etc as that is already calculated in your number by MFP!

    Good luck!

HR Monitor best way to judge by far anything outside of that is just a guessing game.

I agree with the Heart Rate monitor. There are expensive ones and cheap ones. I have had good success with the Timex ones. they are inexpensive and easy to use. It is a chest strap and watch.

I use the zone trainer..because i like to track heart rate...i do running intervals...etc. In the store it is about 89 or 99, i found one online for about 55.

My husband uses the Timex personal trainer.. alittle more simple..doesn't do laps and it isn't a stopwatch. However it will track your calories burned for the duration of your activity and give you heart rate information such as peak, average...etc. That one costs about 79-89 in the store but can find one online for around 40.
