HCG is a crock of ****. "Cleanse" products are a crock of ****. Miracle food diets are a crock of ****. We all want instant results, but if you're going to have any type of success losing weight, you'll come to terms with the fact that it doesn't work that way. That is all.

Good for you for not taking the "easy" way out. Some of those things (like HCG) sound a little bit scary to me.

The way I see it is that I ate my way to this weight, and that didn't happen overnight, so I'm gonna find a way to eat my way out of it.
  • Amen!! Living on 500 calories a day and injecting yourself with hormones is not healthy! It's not safe! I mean, we didn't inject ourselves with hormones to get fat right??! You need to REVERSE the process it took you to get overweight. It's the "yin and yang" of weight loss.

a friend of mine did that HCG nonsense. She injected herself in the belly 3Xdaily and only ate 500 cals a day. crazy. she lost 15 lbs in a month and gained it all back the next.

EW! People do that?!?! I had no idea. I thought HCG was pill hormones.

*grumbles something incoherent about placebos, snake oil, and Dumbo's Magic Feather*

The "hard way" isn't even all that hard. Find foods you love that are good for you and eat more of them than you do junk, find an exercise routine you find rewarding and maybe even enjoyable, and don't get hung up on the numbers.

Don't give money to people preying on your insecurity and vulnerability. And don't give them credit for YOUR work.
  • While I think that everyone has the right to make choices for themselves regarding their approach to attaining a healthier weight, I agree that, as yet, there is NO magic wand. How many times have we seen people that have had bariatric surgery that lose the weight and then slowly gain it back? How many people did that Optifast diet like Oprah, only to gain it back? I have friends in both categories. Until we actually learn how to eat healthy, we will not be healthy. I agree with the previous poster who noted that they didn't get where they were overnight and they won't get back to a healthier being overnight. I've been at it a while now (over a year and half) and it has all been revising my eating patterns to healthier foods (HATE the word diet) and exercise. Okay, and a few choice words and tears along the way.

To me, if you aren't going to change your lifestyle so that you can maintain a lifelong healthy body, then what's the point in losing it in the first place? All that's going to happen is you lose it all then go back to eating/living as you did before and here comes the weight again. Seems very silly to me.

That is the absolute truth! If you're not committed to the long term, is it worth it? I love the motivation people have here but I hope for a lot of those who have a vacation or a wedding as their motivation are planning on the after too!!
