Brand doesn't matter. Just make sure it's digital and has a TARE button. You can get a decent one from Walmart or Target for about $20.

And yes, I have seen significant changes since I started honestly weighing and logging food.

I agree with quiksylver296. I'd also say you're better off getting one of the flat scales vs. the container scales. Some food scales are a flat board like a cutting board (which I recommend); some have attached measuring cups to put the food in. They're about the same price, but the measuring cup one has always frustrated me--it always needs to be cleaned.

I got a cheap one at a target/walmart place. I'd second making it digital, having it have a Tare button, and preferring a flat tray over one that has a shaped container tray.

I'd also add to try and make sure it has both grams and pounds/ounces as a setting.

And I would say I definitely see a difference when I use it, if I am trying to figure out how many calories I'm eating. It helps me get a LOT more accurate. I've also noticed a greater awareness on my part when I have to weight it myself, as opposed to just writing it down from a chart on the web and estimating.

I can look at an amount of chickpeas and estimate much more accurately how much they are, and how many calories they have, and I think that one sticks with you and can help in the future when making dietary choices.

Ozeri touch ii works great for me. Measures in liquid oz, oz, grams, lbs and has a tare mode. It's really accurate. Runs about 27$ walmart but you can find it cheaper online.

I got one off Amazon that has a plastic bowl on top. It can be tared with or without that, or with whatever.... it will do ounces/pounds or metric. I think it was 15 bux.

Get one. I can't stress this enough. If you want to properly record your food you're going to need one. I picked one up at Target for $20 I think. Great investment.

Tare function is essential - I'll second that. I have the Cuisinart Stainless Steel KML-10. It works fine with my one minor complaint is that it uses an unusual battery.
