So tonight before bed I'm going to attempt to do 20 sit-ups..
Slightly embarrassing but I probably can't even pull myself up...
Smh

I find myself in the same position. I notice however I do better at it in the early mornings.

I notice in most of the exercise programs discussed here, sit-ups are not included.

Plank is much better for your overall core, if you're gonna start somewhere that's where I'd start.

I haven't done a sit up yet and my stomach is getting smaller! If you're trying to "tone" up your stomach area, sit ups aren't the way that's done.

the only people who should be doing sit ups are those that need to for physical fitness tests and such...i.e. military, law enforcement, etc.

sit ups are really not a good exercise and you can really jack with your back and your neck...you also really aren't working your core as much as one would think.

I agree with the other poster...i'd do planks.

To be honest I don't even know what planks are. I'll go look that up later on today!

Is there something I can do to focus completely on my stomache area?

Honestly, you probably just need to lose weight to get to whatever it is your goal is. You should still do strength training, but focusing on abs is sort of pointless unless you need to strengthen your core for other reasons.

Nope. You unfortantely don't get to chose where the weight loss is. Your body will do that. Some people lose from the top down, some gradually all over. Me, I lose my boobs. The giant butt is ever-present. Just focus on all over strength and health :-)

Abs are made in the kitchen, not with sit ups.

keep in mind that you can't spot reduce. also, it's really not all that beneficial to isolate one particular area...your body works together as a whole and should be trained as such.

i'd highly recommend doing some full body work...if you don't have access to a weight room, you can do body weight resistance training at home...You Are Your Own Gym is a pretty solid book and will illustrate numerous body weight movements utilized to train and shape your whole body...it also shows these movements at the beginner level all the way to advanced.

The top part of a push up is a basic plank.

@elias1609 looking up how to do plank will be easier then me explaining it. But it'll work most of your core.

Also like a few people side the only way to really get defined abs is to lose weight. That being side having a strong core is still important.

Try to start by doing plank for a full minute if you can't do a full minute try 30 seconds and then 15 seconds on each side doing side plank. Once you build core strength you can start doing it for longer.

    Goodluck!
