Weights routines recommended for a girl tryin to lose 140ish lbs

I have read and heard from people who have lost weight if they could go back and change something what would it be? And most have said they would have done weight training from day 1. I have no idea where to start, how heavy to lift and which routines to do as i am a complete noob. Can someone please recommend where I should start and what weights to buy etc as I cannot go to a gym. Thanks
