How long after having a baby did you wait/ is it recommended to wait until getting back to the gym? I know there are weight lifting restrictions, so what exercises are recommended? I feel ready to get back to the gym and tone up!
*2.5 weeks postpartum*

You should talk with your doctor but most recommend a full 6-8 weeks of recovery before starting any exercise program. Give your body the time it needs.

i tried at the 6 week mark but it didn't last -I was just too tired! I seriously started exercising and watching calories 6 months in (once my son slept through the night)

It usually takes around 6 weeks to fully recover from giving birth. I know that, with most of mine, at 2.5 weeks, even just doing too much around the house would cause bleeding to increase (not a good sign). Take this time to rest, let your body heal, and bond with your little one. I probably wouldn't even eat at more than a slight deficit yet.

You have lots of time to get back into shape. Don't rush it.

First of all, congrats! Yes, talk with your doc. I started walking a bit in the beginning but waited quite a while to jump back into serious exercise. Give yourself time!
  • Thank you everyone. I was thinking of just hitting up the treadmill for a little, but will wait until I talk with my dr. You all are right need to make sure my body has had time to heal properly, don't need any complications.

I've had 3 csections. Was given the ok to walk as exercise as soon as my body felt ready. That was at about 10 days for me. Listen to your body and do what feels ok.
