Macros are just how many Carbs, Proteins, and Fats you eat.

MFP gives a suggested split (50C-20P-30F) but you can set them however you wish. I use that split and it works just fine for me. If you like a different split, that's fine too.

    Recommended ranges:
    45%-65% of calories from carbs
    10%-35% of calories from protein
    20%-35% of calories from fat

You can go lower on carbs or higher on fat if you wish.

Just pick macros that work for you and keep you satisfied from within these ranges.

Do you know how MFP calculates the macros?
How come for a home made pork patty with 22g fat and 17g protein MFP calculates 72% fat and 28% protein? No carbs here.
It doesn't seem to be right.
And this is not the only example.

    Can anyone comment?

Yep! One gram of fat has 9 calories in it while one gram of protein has 4 calories, hence the percentage balance. There aren't going to be carbs in a patty of purely meet unless you add carbs to it.
