Join me sometime for the 24 mile hike around Lake Geneva. It takes about 8 hours to complete, depending on how much you stop to gawk at the mansions and the Frank Lloyd Wright designed houses.

BTW: I have done it 4 times.

Second Saturday in October. Mark your calendar. You don't even have to join the club to do it, although $6 per year doesn't exactly break anyone's bank.

Not in my hiking club, but many people run it on their own or maybe in other groups.

You have 10 months. You can do it! I walked my first 5 miler in March of this year and was able to do 24 miles seven months later. (The other 3 times I have done Lake Geneva were back when I was fit before my back injury, around 2001)

You can count me in, too....but I'd have to travel a long ways from Cali.

Here, those of us who run love Annadel State Park because of it's long hilly up hill trails. The longest we've (my group of gal friends) is 7.5 miles up hill, down hill, through mud.

We should get an MFP group together. I'd make it to WI for that if I can't get into the Chicago Marathon the day after (the two in the same weekend would probably be overkill).

We did an amazing walk recently, Torquay to Bells Beach and back, along the coast. Some on the beach, some of the cliffs. It was gorgeous. About 9 miles all up.

Hiked Mt Baldy with a 4,000 elevation gain 11 mile loop with a face plant near the top. My face looked like hell and lost some toenails but what the hell. It was fun!!

Yikes! We did the Devil's Lookout(I think that is what it was called) in Colorado last year. Nice elevation change. Last 144 steps were steep.

@rabbitjb I got close to there once! I went to Lake Constance several years ago, was amazing

Also, @queenliz99 , I used to live in Pomona.. I've done that Mt. Baldy more than a few times! Great hike!

I took clippers and a bow saw on my (admittedly very short) walk yesterday and turned this:

I'd love to join you guys on some of these scenic hikes. I walk my neighborhood boulevard... up and down a hill. Not much of an elevation change, but it feels challenging enough on the days when I run it. I did 8 miles this morning. Most days, I do 5.75.

Not too scenic here either -- city or neighborhood streets, usually. My biking is more scenic, and it is fun to use running to explore some neighborhoods I don't go to as often. There's a meet-up group locally that does planned group walks -- usually at a decent speed, they will post the planned speed so you can choose between more exercise-focused walks and sightseeing -- through different neighborhoods that seem fun. Next year I hope to do more trail running and hiking.

I like to run along the lake too (clearly this was taken a few months ago, but it's still nice now) -- it's a pretty good route from work if I want to add a couple of miles to the distance:
