Tracking Treadmill Runs - gadget help, please!

Treadmill runners: how do you track your runs? My proform treadmill doesn't have a (free) data storing option, and my polar ft4 heart rate monitor watch tracks calories burned but nothing more. Looking for a way to track treadmill runs efficiently, including a way to log vertical feet. Am I living in dream land, or is there a gadget/app that can do that?

Worth noting: I use the treadmill app but it's really just a listing app that doesn't show reports or have any other options.

I manually enter my treadmill runs into Runkeeper. It mostly makes a list but it works pretty well for keeping track.

I use Runkeeper on my phone in stopwatch mode on the treadmill. Start the timer when I start running, stop it when I stop running, then entire distance, heart rate, etc. I don't believe there's a specific place to enter elevation/climb but there is a section for notes so you could just note it there.

Thanks for the input! Follow up question: does Nike+ only work if you have your phone in your hand? I have the chip in my shoe but I vaguely remember not using that app because you had to have your phone in your hand (very cumbersome with the iPhone 6plus). Is that correct?

Generally for indoor tracking you must have the phone in your hand, but I think if you have the shoe chip you don't have to? My dad has the shoe chip and I know he takes his phone with him to run because it syncs to the chip, but I don't think it has to actually be in your hand.

I just got a Garmin Forerunner watch and added the FootPod to my order. It is supposed to track distance on a treadmill. I haven't tested it yet but will probably be stuck inside soon (if winter ever actually arrives in northeast USA).

When I first bought my treadmill I tried using my Nike+ app with the foot chip, but it never registered the movement. Bummer.

I live in Alaska and winter has been steady here. Thus the treadmill running. The Garmin forerunner sounds cool, I'll read up on that. Thanks!

latest garmin watches have built-in accelerometers for indoor treadmill running. You just select indoor treadmill and it will record it all into garmin connect.

I'd suggest checking the reviews on dc rainmakers site. His reviews explain every aspect of these watches in eye watering detail
