One of my biggest motivators for weight loss was a glucose measurement of 110 on a basic metabolic panel in August. Received my new blood test results today and I'm at 88 - a tremendous improvement and a nice U-turn from a potential lifelong health issue!

I was shocked when I had the 110 measurement, but losing weight did the trick. It's great that we are all moving towards better health!

Not to be a wet blanket - and I hope the results do represent a real change. But if these were isolated tests (single fasting blood glucose tests), there may not be a significant difference. My fasting blood glucose has ranged from 82 to 114 in the past week. Daily variations in diet can make that much difference, so from a medical perspective, you may want to invest in a meter and test periodically since the 110 is obviously cause for concern.

(The other alternative is to convince your doctor to do an A1C test, which represents an average over the preceding 3 months. It is a much more reliable indicator of whether there is a significant health issue on the horizon.)
