I called in sick to work today because I vomited this morning, felt really dizzy and have the flu. I was out getting some strepsils and cold&flu medicine when my boss saw me. What should I do? Can I be fired over this????? HELP!

If he saw you at the store buying cold meds/etc, then the only thing that should have done is confirmed you were sick. I can't imagine you'd get fired for buying medicine while sick...0

I would explain to your boss that you needed medicine (did he/she see what you were buying?). If you're sick - you're sick. If you needed medicine - you needed it. However, you MAY be required to bring a doctor's note now. Did you say anything to your boss when you saw him/her?
Also, because I am a cover your butt kinda person - I would keep the receipts for the medicine - just in case. You can't argue with receipts that clearly show what you bought and when you bought it.0 -

He didn't see me IN the chemist though, just walking through the shopping centre to get to the chemist...0

play it safe, go to a doctor and get a doctor's note, cuz then it will go in ur file and there's no confusion!0

I would just mention nonchalantly when I returned to work that... "hey sorry I wasn't able to say hi when we spotted each other in the store on Monday- I was on my way to pick up my medicine so I could get back home to bed." If you mention it first, like no big deal, then nothing else would be said... if you avoid it- it makes it look like you are hiding something. Just my opinion.0

the only problem is that at this time of year doctors can take weeks to get an appointment with, the next available one is not until the 23rd june0

Is there a reason you fear this? Are you sick often or call in when you are not sick? I don't see that you did anything wrong in this case!
I think if you are a good employee and he fires you for this (which he doesn't have to disclose) you don't want to work for him anyways. Many people are sick and feel better in the afternoon. I think a simple explanation in the morning will be enough.0 -

As to can they fire you - that depends on the laws in your country/state.
I'd take the proactive approach and chat with the boss. Acknowledge that you were out getting meds - have the receipt with you. Most likely the boss will not have an issue with it.0 -
When I'm sick it really shows in my face (very pale, dark circles under my eyes, etc.) so if you're like me your boss probably noticed you didn't look well. I agree with the others though, have the receipts handy just in case.0

Don't know why your boss wasn't at work. My suggestion is to take the initiative. Let your boss know that you saw him/her on the way chemist. Perhaps you could mention something about the chemist such as "it is the closest one to my home" or "it's the only one that carries everything I need." After all, you've nothing to hide.0

This is what I would do.0
