Charlie Horses

I have been getting these beastly things each night lately. During the wee morning hours of my sleep, sometimes 2 per night.
I'm not sure what the result of these are from? I have enough potassium and am staying super hydrated as I drink at least 12 8oz cups per day. I do weights about 2-3 times per week allowing at least 1 day inbetween with stretching after each weight training time. My poor calf muscles can't take many more of these! It seems like it takes ages for the pain to go away!
What are your suggestions?

even though you "have enough potassium" - try eating a banana in the evenings.. see if that helps. I know there is something about salt and charlie horses too.. but I can't remember. My dad used to put epsom salt under his tongue or something. Maybe google that?

I get those occasionally (not as much as I used to). When they start, I straighten my knee and pull my toes up as far as I can. The charlie horse, almost immediately, goes away.

If you're getting enough potassium than try milk. My brother used to get them horribly and my mom started giving him 1 more glass of milk a day and that helped a bit.

I know it is hard when your sleeping, but try to make a concious effort to always stretch your legs with your toes pulled back towards the front of your body...never pointed!! I use toes-to-the-nose to remember...stupid, but it works! The calf can't knot up, when it is completely stretched.
