Backpacking Across Europe?

Hey all!

Planning a 4-6 week backpacking trip across Europe next summer for me and a girlfriend (potentially our boyfriends as well). I need suggestions as to what cities/countries I can't miss! I've already been to: Spain, France, Italy, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, and Austria but not since I was way younger (went various times ages 8-13). I want to go to places that might be less "tourist-y" and see more "local" life. I'd love to get in some beach time as well. I adore art, night life, history, and beautiful nature.

So suggestions on where I need to go? Any routes that any of you guys have done that you would recommend in a 4-6 week time frame?

Thanks!

Marvao and Evora in Portugal are stunning. More inland though.

Also the Italian Riviera (Cinqua Terre) is fantastic.

By far my favourite place in Europe / Asia is Turkey though. Get outta Istanbul as fast as you can - the rest of the country is unforgettable.

If you want to PM me I could probably come up with hundreds more :-) I spent a couple of years backpacking in Europe before I got married and had kids. In fact - I met my husband at a Hostel in Scotland (I call him my most expensive souvenir).
