Sedentary at home, any likeminded friends? would like to find some friends who lose without exercise

I have exercised chronically for years, but now I am unable to due to exercise related injuries. I have been at home for two months so far and I've adjusted my diet but I'm still wondering how others lose weight without exercise. Would be great to meet dieters who do this successfully.

I walk and have hand weights and weighted vests but can't use them. I feel like I interrupt my joints every time I attempt exercise. After 2 months of rest they healed to the point where I don't feel soreness but any exercise brings back tingling sensations which means I have ways to go before complete healing. So any advice appreciated and friendship requests.

What does your doctor say as far as what you can and can't do and how long of a full recovery are you facing? Do you have multiple injuries? And are they all exercise related? Sorry for all the questions, but a little more info would help. You can lose weight without exercising, but if you were over exercising previously (if that is the reason for the injuries; I don't know) then maybe try re-evaluating your plan.

I'd rather not focus on the injury, just diets that work if you don't mind.

"Diets that work" are the ones where you eat less food. Because you don't have exercise to help in your efforts, you just need to be diligent about portions sizes and logging food.

Plenty of people lose weight without exercise. Low activity just slows things down a bit, is all.

I was just curious how many calories I would need to cut. I would love to know what calorie level results in weight loss at various heights and weights

The only thing that matter is you. Put your information into MFP, set it to lose 1/2 pound a week, and go from there. If you feel you can do more, then increase it by 1/2 pound.

That's a good idea. It feels impossible somewhat even though I've reduced my food in take, I'd be shocked if it works.

If you are a good logger ( at least for a period of time) it will work. You get to see an adjust it accordingly. You will eventually start choosing better options that fit your calorie goals.

low activity doesn't slow anything down unless you are small and otherwise wouldn't get enough nutrients.

I started at 220lb and set my diet such as to lose 2lb/week regardless of if I exercised or not. Exercising didn't speed up weight loss.

i lost 50 lbs without exercise, just by very accurately weighing all my food and logging it, and not cheating myself. Recently I started 30 min on the exercise bike a day because I'm getting close to goal and need exercise to create more of a calorie deficit, but most of my weightloss was purely via counting those calories consumed. I did stick with 1200 because female and very sedentary. The good news is that after losing about 40 lbs I started having more energy and feeling lighter on my feet, and wanted to move more. You can totally do it just by watching your food intake, and after losing some weight your joints might be up for a little exercise. Good luck! You can do it!

This is very helpful. Logging could be very easy for me because my grocery at home is already geared towards lowfat/low Carb, but feeling unsure makes me not want to commit.

I second that. I didn't lose weight with exess exercise. I will see how the low calorie works.

Can you tell me how long it took and how much per week?

Enter your stats in MFP with sedentary activity. It will give you your calorie target. It factors a 250 calorie/day deficit for every 1/2 lb of weight to lose in a week. (~3500 cal/lb, 3500/7 = 500/day).

That is the ideal math; weight loss being non-linear, it will fluctuate from week to week.

I lost the majority of my weight with zero exercise. Diet trumps exercise for weight loss for most people.

I try to count all the calories I eat and try to stay below the calorie goal of 2000 by at least 500 calories. I don't pay much attention to anything else. I started the last week of September this year at 295 pounds and am down to 247 now. I had a stroke a little over a year ago so I pretty much don't get any excercise except what I get doing stuff around the house

Yes be diligent with the food input into MFP. Simple math input has to be less than output. I know a lady lost over 50 lbs. without any exercise and I do mean without any. Keep your goal in mind. You can do it

I weighed 308.6 on sept 5th 2015. I started my journey here. I cut myself down to 1500 cal. but found that due to water retention and other health issues I needed further assistance. Got medicine to assist with those things and further cut my cal. down to 1000-1200. I find that with no exorcise at all except for my normal walking and wandering around the house etc... I have now lost 30 lbs as of today. I'm down to 277.3, so it is possible to loose weight without any additional exorcise other than normal everyday life. However, I find that slowly I will want to add a little bit in here and there, I was told about couch exorcises (very simple ones) and resistance bands that don't put a lot of pressure on my joints (can't swim as were i live there are no indoor pools sadly) I hope to add this slowly into my routine because I know I will want to tone my body even if just a little bit so that I can hopefully not be so tired all the time. Diagnosed with CFS/Fibro.

Your journey is amazing. The encouragement is helpful. I am psyched to make it happen.

I dont fully agree with this. Exercise does help and can speed things up (not just cal in, cal out) but its not the be-all, end-all and its definitely not as much as diet (maybe 15% whereas diet is 80%). The consistent message I see in your post is excess exercise. Many times that does more damage that the recommended exercise levels. Excess exercise, especially at too heavy of a weight can cause injury which just sets everything back.
