Hello everyone,

I'm a single mom to a very energetic 3 year old and I realized she's putting me to shame! She's active and energetic and I'm anything but. So I've made it a goal to lose 60 lbs by this time next year (so, by January 2016).

5 years ago, I was at a weight of 160 lbs. Today I am 220 lbs. My goal is to reach 160 again. I am very much overwhelmed by the amount of weight that I need to lose, and don't know if I can. I work at a desk job so that means I commute by car to work and sit for 9 hours a day. I do not exercise and am very sedentary. I've also realized that although I eat healthy foods, my portions are very large.

I have noticed I'm the only person in my age group that is this overweight, in my circle of family and friends. I feel ashamed. I don't know how to motivate myself to become active or how to fit it into my day (keeping in mind I have a 3 year-old that is with me before I go to work and after I come home). It's winter in Canada so outdoor sports are kind of out of the question right now. I can't attend the gym because I cannot take my daughter with me.

Anybody else been in this situation, what are your tips and tricks and ideas? I cannot afford to gain any more weight or to stay at my current weight. I miss the old me. I deserve to be healthy and fit. It's time.

Welcome to MFP! We all started somewhere, and this is a great first step. You will find a lot of information here, but more importantly, tons of support.

Just start with small steps and goals. Looking at a big picture makes everything scary but looking at sections makes it not so bad! When I first started I just did 10 minutes of exercise 3 times a day and I started slowly switching food and eating less. Baby steps. " Little by little a little becomes a lot"
