Nutrious, delicious foods/recipes to eat in bulk?

I am often very hungry, and want fast food or things like salt and vinegar rice crackers. I ate way too many in 2015 and I think it has really slowed my weight loss. Too much salt and it often pushed me over my calorie limit.
What do you make when you are really hungry but you don't have many calories to play with?
I enjoy having a cabbage salad which is cabbage, lots of lemon juice and a pinch of salt. Its good either steamed or raw. Unfortunately, I am usually too lazy too want to cut the cabbage up. I wonder if I could freeze it? I think I like things that are zesty/have a bite (hence the vinegar and lemon obsession).
I also like making kumara chips in the oven, but we use oil on those, and I'm sure that adds a lot of calories, plus I eat a lot more than I should. I didn't realise kumara (sweet potato) had nearly as many calories as regular potatoes.
I think recipes based on tomato, carrots, celery and cabbage are the best because they are low calorie to start off with, although I don't really like carrots or celery. I'm wondering if my excessive hunger has been because of a lack of protein. (don't bother checking my food diary, I haven't been active for several months).
I heard chicken and nuts are also a good option to curb hunger, but I tend to overdo things and again, eat way too much.
So what are your favorite tricks, tips and recipes?

For me the trick is to avoid putting myself in that situation in the first place. I try to pre-log the days food and split my fat and protein up over my three meals to keep me satisfied.
If I do find myself hungry with very few calories to work with, I increase a serving of mixed veg up to borderline crazy amounts, or add some fruit with filling fibre.0 -
I'm eating protein right now for breakfast (ham high in salt, but it was free from work). Have you ever tried a protein bar or shake?
My store sells cabbage already cut up. Look for it in a bag. You can't freeze it. Start logging to get healthy.0 -
I'm a high volume eater and play with volumetrics a lot. I don't eat foods I don't like, but I do have substitutes that I really enjoy so I can eat more.
I will eat two bags of shirataki noodles with two Bilinkski's chicken sausages, mixed with 2-3 laughing cow cheese wedges to make it cheese, and sometimes I'll add up to 400 grams of zucchini and squash. Usually about 400 calories and has to be eaten out of a mixing bowl.
I used to do the 400g zucchini/squash with ground turkey, 50 g of tomato and mushroom, chipotle sauce, mixed with a laughing cow cheese again. The cheese and chipotle sauce make a creamy, spicy, cheesy sauce. Depending on how many calories I had, I would alter the amount of meat, or add black beans/etc. This also tended to be in the 300-400 calorie ranges.
Egg whites are another of my favorite for high volume. Add 240 or so egg whites to 190g of frozen broccoli, again with laughing cow cheese and maybe even a low calorie sausage link-bam.
Popcorn! I eat about 80-100 grams of popcorn every night. It's a huge about for 240 calories. Most people would probably eat less. I pop it in a brown paper bag without oil, and add some if I have the calories-along with nutritional yeast and taco seasoning.
Protein fluff. Water, xanthan gum, ice, maybe frozen strawberries, protein power. Make a huge bowl for calories starting around 100 and going up depending on your ingredients. This is great if you are REALLY hungry. It doesn't fill you up like a steak and potato would, but sometimes I can't finish a bowl.
Also, when I eat salad-I will seriously eat an entire bag of that prepared lettuce/veg mix. Add a 100 calorie can of tuna, tiny bit of cheese, hot sauce...lunch. It's not that exciting but it tastes good, is only 200 calories, and leaves me plenty of room to eat late at night, which I love.0 -
@Queenmunchy has great volumetric recipes. She is a much better cook than me0
