Hi,
Two years ago, I gave up gluten and avoid eat any gluten free bread or pasta. Then 5 months ago, I gave up sugar and have now I lost 40 pounds (no major exercise just walking). Close to 6 feet and though no longer obese I am few pounds over a healhty BMI. My calorie intake is around 1100cal and I feel so full after that I cant think of anything that I would want to eat.
Should I be worried that I am not hitting the 1200cal mark? or does anyone have a similar story?
thanks

You have lost weight due to extremely low calories nothing to do with gluten or sugar.....good chance you are also losing a lot of muscle (not good) which means your metabolism is also slowing down (not good) your not hungry because your body is slowing down due to lack of calories...have you ever been sick and not able to eat much for a few days? Remember how it takes a bit to get your tummy to eat a good meal (the old saying your stomach has shrunk) to avoid any long term metabolic damage is at least lift calories to above 12000

Even 1200 is very low for someone of your height. But yes, I would worry, not just about the muscle loss stated above but other physical issues that can come from continuously undereating (hair loss, weakened organs, irregular or stopped menstrual cycle).0

um
you're 6 ft and eating 1100 calories a day
you don't have a progressive resistance programme in there..you're not watching your protein intake but arbitrarily cutting out gluten and sugar
yes - be worried

This sounds like an eating disorder, not a weight loss plan, you need to reconsider what you are doing. No one feels full at 1100 calories,to the point of being unable to eat more, especially not at your height. If this is how are feeling right now, then this sounds like an emotional issue. Try to find some balance.0 -
I did something similar to lose weight quick but I used exercise to burn the extra 500 calories and kept my calories at 1700 lost about two pounds a week I knew it wasn't the best approach but 50 lbs in 5 months was worth it to me. I eat over 2000 calories now and Maintain weight while being in fantastic shape.
At 6 foot my guess is you weight 190 being just over in BMI to maintain that weight you should eat .6 grams of protein per pound so 114 grams protein and 76 grams of Fat at .4 x body weight the rest of your calories to maintain weight no lifting should be 1800 very light life style--
Personally I would recommend 1800-2000 and get some light exercise in you will feel so much better- YOUR TDEE is over 1900 calories BMR 1775

If you feel full faster now, I suggest upping your calories in the safe range as mentioned above by eating calorie dense foods like nuts. Nuts are sugar and gluten free so you can happily eat them. And their calories add up quickly. If you are too full at meals to add nuts, eat them between meals as snacks.0

Did basically the same throng but still are around 2000 calories. Was burning over 1k per day so that created a pretty large deficit. Even with having macros on point and hiting 125-175 grams of protein per day, I still lost quite a bit of muscle. I can only imagine what is happening with the OP...
I also think that a larger deficit that is obtained via exercise rather than calorie intake has less affect on adaptive thermogenesis but not sure if that's proven or not...

I did a similar thing unintentionally at first, was eating lots of vegetables, apples, and had the same meals everyday (tilapia, chicken, eggs, etc.) which didn't go over 1000 calories lost 60 pounds in less than 7 months but I was also doing p90x, bbl, and running. But once I realized how low I upped it now I eat between 1100-1300, for me though if I eat more than that I can't lose weight. I'm 5'4.0

Yes... You very well can feel full at 1100 calories and that does not mean its an eating disorder. I eat around that all the time. No eating disorder and I'm full to the
Point of forcing myself to eat my "dessert", drink some milk, anything to try to get some more calories in. I don't really even exercise now. When I used to exercise a lot it was even harder for me eat more. Exercise does not make me hungry. Its not always an emotional issue. Sometimes Its just hard to eat that much healthy low calorie food (and yes I know the two are not always synonymous).
OP If you are worried, try pb on toast or celery or an apple; or add a shake to your day or a serving of pasta or cook with oil.0 -
Also wanted to add that unless your intolerant to gluten or diabetic excluding those things isn't really making a difference. Other then perhaps you are making healthier choices overall. Is choosing dates instead of candy bars.. The reason you're losing is you've created a calorie deficit.
I struggle with it because there's a lot of foods I don't like and/or upset my tummy. I eat the way I do because I feel the best when I eat these foods. The only foods I love the I avoid are bread and chips. Because I can't eat just one serving...or two... I'll eat it all.
Idk about all the lost muscle talk. I did, but my world blew up and I've done nothing for almost a year now. You stop strength training you lose muscle.

That sounds really low. I agree with others who suggested adding in fats (since low carb is working for you) in the form of nuts, or cheese, meats, eggs, or just heavy whipping cream in coffee.Confuzzled4ever wrote: »Also wanted to add that unless your intolerant to gluten or diabetic excluding those things isn't really making a difference. I somewhat disagree with the bolded. Reducing sugars can help other health issues besides T2D, although that one definitely benefits from a low sugar diet.0 -
Yes, I happen to believe sugar is evil and have reduced it significantly from my diet. but I am attempting avoid going down that road..it never ends well on here. Strictly speaking, reducing calories is all that is required to lose weight. If you're looking at overall health.... I'm not gonna participate in that argument.0
