This is my first time seriously trying to lose weight. But the thing is I'm really confused about calorie counting and how to set my goals. I'm a 22 year old girl weighing 170 lbs. And I'm about 4 ft 11 inches in height. My BMR from this website is 1437 calories/day. Suppose I want to lose 1 lb per week and I lose 200 calories/day from exercise, how many calories should I be eating per day?

On the "my home" tab click on "goals" then click "change goals". Enter in your info and MFP will tell you how many cals to eat!

    Good luck!

Whenever you enter your exercise for the day, your daily calories in your food section will update to show how many more you are allowed to eat.

So let's say you eat 1700 calories one day, then you will need to balance that out with ~300 calories burned through exercise. Or let's say you exercise and burn off 300 calories, then that's 300 more you can enjoy that day to stay around 1400 net calories. (I prefer the wording of the latter, more of the glass half full scenario.)

Essentially, net calories each week is 7 days of x amount of calories consumed, less exercise (yours is 1400/day or 9800/week.)

    Hope that helped!

I'm kind of confused on the BMR as well. I'm 22 years old and 192 pounds, and My BMR is 1,798. However, even with setting the goals to losing 1 pound a week, I still come up short on what MFP recommends, at 1,750. Is that supposed to happen? Or did I do something wrong? I'm definitely a sedentary person, as I'm an artist who pretty much works on a computer all day, but I do Kendo twice a week, and sometimes during the off days I'll get a 10 minute work out in. Should I be eating more?
