I am 19 years old, and I am ready to make some changes in my life. My overall goal is to lose about 50 pounds in the next 6 months or so. However, any progress will make me happy, as long as im leading a healthier lifestyle. I need someone who will help me stay motivated and give me advice and strategies to lose weight. If anyone is interested in being my mentor, please message me!

Hi Abby, Feel free to add me if you wish. I've been on here a long time and generally have had success in meeting my personal health goals - I do go up and down through a year (and am currently looking to go down a few).

I will do what I can to help you along and get you oriented to what all the jargon people throw around here means (BMR, TDEE, and whatever fad someone is touting from time to time). Feel free to send me a message with any questions and I'll happily see what I can do to help.

To be clear - nobody can make you do this - you need to make yourself do this, but certainly I believe avoiding bad, demotivating information, may be able to help so I'll do what I can on the information front.

As a start - Your goal of 50 Lbs *may* be possible, but a lot depends on some specifics about you that I don't currently have... (and you can send me if you decide you want to add me....) However, I will be up-front and say 50Lb in 6 months, just under 2Lb a week, is, for most people, a very tough goal to attain. There are a number of things that help determine the level of weight loss you can safely pursue and what you can expect, but as you've noted it is the progress that counts! If you are like most people - I'm certain that if you get to 6 months from now and are 35Lbs lighter, you'll be pleased at your progress and be on the path to continue for the last 15...

Weight loss is very doable... but it takes some time, patience, and self discipline... I'd suggest you avoid the hype of a particular "Diet" - learn the basics of how your body works instead and you will be empowered to change it.

    Best of luck!
