Not able to sleep when hungry - also diet pill question

Does anyone else have the problem of when they are the least bit hungry before going to bed they can't sleep? What do you guys do about it? Becuase if I have had a really good day sometimes I mess it up just because I can't sleep so I eat something.
Also, lately I have been getting the feeling that when I take a diet pill it makes me more hungry. I have recently stopped using them because I realized that I was really shaky with them and when I feel sick I always think the solution is to eat something to make me not feel sick any longer... does anyone have a reason why the pills make me hungrier then I would be without taking them in the first place? Thanks! This is my first post and I am looking forward to sticking to a diet and excersize plan in the new year!

Are you sure it's really hunger and not nerves or heartburn from your dinner? How about a warm cup of herbal tea? Something like "SleepyTime" or "Tension Tamer"? If that's too tough, you could start with a cup of warm skim milk. Or take a calcium tablet with the herbal tea - good for the bones! One thing that no one on this site seems to discuss is that when you lose weight, while you become less at risk for diabetes and heart disease, you become more at risk for osteoporosis.
While many say that it doesn't matter when you eat during the day, going to bed fasting gives your body time to use its excess stores for fuel instead of what's in your stomach. And by fasting, I only mean that a few hours have passed since your last meal.
Certainly stop taking diet pills if you're having that response! That could also make it harder for you to fall asleep!0 -
I have the same problem with sleeping when hungry. I usually have a glass of water. If that doesnt work I have a very tiny snack. As for the diet pills, I have no answer as I have never taken them. Good luck in the diet/exercise plan.0

Oh yes! I have the exact same problem! Sometimes I wait it out and see if I can fall asleep. 3 hours past my bedtime SOMETIMES I fall asleep but if anything, its just out of pure exhaustion! And then sometimes I end up even after that 3 hour desperate attempt, grabbing something to eat to fill my growling stomach. For a while I did really good and whenever that happened I would grab broccoli or cauliflower. But I'm having a hard time doing that anymore...argh!
I've never had the best of luck with diet pills. The only one I ever liked was a "natural" green tea weight loss pill. It was the only one I had that didn't make me too jittery. I don't know how well it worked though...when I started taking it, I thought it was making me go pee more often and my pants weren't fitting right. Wasn't the pill's fault though! lol, I was preggo! I might have to try it again now that I'm back to loosing weight!

I eat before bed. Contrary to popular belief, your body isn't aware of what time zone you're in, so having a snack (as long as you don't go over your calories) will not cause fat gain. There's no reason to try to go to bed starving. Space your meals out or cut back on dinner and have a snack afterward.
There's really nothing positive I can say about diet pills. They're just caffeine pills with nonsense herbal supplements added. They make you shaky because they're stimulants. They increase your blood pressure and heart rate--what a great idea when you're exercising, right? (Sarcasm). Hunger isn't understood--there is an idea of what causes it, but nothing concrete. So the caffeine could be doing any number of things to increase your feelings of hunger.0 -

I agree with songbyrdsweet (but then, why wouldn't I? She's the educated one.)
I always eat before bed. I can't go to bed feeling hungry, and you shouldn't feel hungry if you are eating the right kinds of foods throughout the day and eating 5 small meals. Warm milk or some yogurt or cottage cheese is always good. Hot tea doesn't make my tummy happy at bedtime.
As far as fasting while sleeping. I'd say 8 hours counts as a fast, right? Your body doesn't care what time it gets its food. It's all a numbers game. Calories in minus calories out.0 -
I also dont believe that it matters how late you eat for the most part. In many parts of the world an 8 pm dinner is the norm. I almost always have a late dinner and I am still losing weight.
Some people dont sleep well on a full tummy however I sleep best with a late dinner or else I wake before 6 am starving...if I eat before bed I sleep till 80 -

Where did you get that fact? It isn't true. I have eaten before bed every night (almost). It is a matter of calories consumed minus calories burned. The end.0 -
It may not be fat, per se, but it can be psychological feedback that makes people fat.
So many people on this site moan and complain about the scale reading...
So much of the daily and even weekly fluctuation in weight is exactly that. And the more you slow your digestion, the more you magnify that effect. And the more frustrated you get, etc., etc.
Eating during the day means digesting food faster, being more regular, and seeing less weight volatility. Which to a lot of people has a big impact on their psyche and their progress.
Also, last time I checked, most binging is done at night. Which is why many diet gurus try to train people to just stop eating after a certain time. For people who are vulnerable to late night binges, it can have a huge impact on their weight loss and their health.
I just think that the psychological element of dieting is just as important as the thermodynamics (cal in < cal out leads to weight loss). Most people are smart enough to understand that equation. But that same mind that understands all the logic still falters in the face of the refrigerator - especially at night.0 -
It is true. It may not be fat weight. But it's crap weight, if I may be so blunt. And that always starts a wave of posts of "Oh my god, how did I gain 2 lbs when I have been so good? I am so discouraged!"
For people prone to that kind of response, I'd recommend eating lighter at night. Better feedback --> more stick-to-it-ness-->ultimately better results.0 -

You are certainly right about binge eating and if one isn't eating enough and frequently enough during the day, they will naturally want to binge late at night.
We were talking about going to bed hungry. Why be miserable when a small snack will help you sleep? You can also sabatoge yourself psychologically if you feel hungry frequently. I can't sleep if I'm hungry, and sleep is very important to weight loss.0 -
