I usually have a banana on my way to the gym. I use to work out before eating but would get weak and dizzy 20 minutes into my workout even though i was drinking water. The body needs a little something to get it going. I wouldn't do a regular meal within a couple of hours.0

It depends on what I ate and how much! And it depends on the exercise.
- I can't run on an empty stomach, but I can bike on an empty stomach...
- I can run within 30 minutes of a very light carb snack, but not until 2 hours pass after a large meal.
For instance, I ran 2 hours after eating a pound of chili, a half a head of romaine lettuce, and a cup of high protein cereal with half a cup of milk. (Remarkably, that whole dinner had only 640 calories.)
Now if that doesn't make you feel like you're going to throw up... :laugh:0 -
generally it's good to eat before a workout - I usually need about 20 minutes, but the key is to make that meal more carb, less protein. Then to get more out of your workout you want to eat a higher protein, lower carb food/meal after the workout - the sooner the better. There are a number of articles about "feeding your workout" online... reading those helped me. Also nausea is often tied to having your heart rate too high - so be sure to watch that...0

Most people I have seen on this site eat lightly before eating to avoid feeling sick while exercising. Some eat just a protein bar to stave off the ill feeling. I like to eat after I exercise, but I have never had the feeling that not eating made me feel sick. Everyone's bodies are different, it is just a matter of finding the right formula for yours. Try eating just a little before eating, then finishing the meal post exercise and see how that goes. But, your body may be like mine and does better with no food before working out. Good luck and congrats on the 21 pounds lost already!0

It doesnt really matter when i eat, when Im done working out Im always starving, especially if its an evening workout.
my typical day is lunch around 1:00 and I have a snack around 3:30ish. I hit the gym around 5 and work out for an hour... so by 6 when I get home I am READY for dinner.
I have noticed when I work out in the mornings between 11-12 it is easier. I eat a good filling breakfast... oatmeal or something with some carb to it for energy. I dont seem so hungry afterwards but I also know that lunch is right around the corner also.
I know I would burn out too quick if I didnt have a snack or some breakfast prior to going. Try both the eating and not eating first and see which one makes you feel less  . If neither helps, try scaling back your workout a little, maybe your overdoing it.0 -
I always exercise right after my shower, which is right after dinner. My dinners are usually my meals of the day with the highest calories, so I think it's best to do it then. (Plus I'm in school, so I can't work out any other time of the day.)0

Generally what I do is:
1. Walk to the gym.
2. Work out.
I've tried other ways (like working out before I walk to the gym) But my family thinks I look like an idiot standing in the middle of the living room, with no weights, trying to do an overhead press.0 -
1 hour - 1.5 hours.0

My exercise is walking. I can hit the road right after a meal, usually lunch.0
