fitbit charge

Does the fitbit charge only calculate calories burned by the steps?

Yes and no. It also includes your BMR, which is what your body burns just doing basic function to keep you alive. You can also log non-step exercise on Fitbit and it'll give you a better estimation of what you burn than MFP does.

I guess I asked that wrong, does the sync from fitbit to mfp for calories burned, only apply to steps on fitbit. Just wondering as I am sure shoveling snow is burning calories, but I am not sure if the fitbit picks that up?

I could be wrong, but I think it will only count the steps you take while shoveling snow. It probably doesn't account for the calories you are burning from the hard work itself. You would probably need a heart rate monitor to track those calories, since your heart rate is most likely up, but the charge doesn't know that. It only knows how many steps you are taking. Does that make sense?

yeah, it is all a learning process. I am just trying to figure out why my weight is fluctuating so much. One day it stays the same, one day it goes down a bit, the next day it goes up, then it stays the same, it's going to take forever to lose my 20 pounds this way. Just trying to figure out if I am not doing something right. Like, I wasn't hungry yesterday and I was 400 calories below my 1200, and I completed my dairy entries and said that I wasn't eating enough. But would think my body would know if I was hungry or not, so then I was forced to eat more calories, and then I didn't lost any weight last night, but I was still under 1200. This stuff is just so confusing to me.
