At home Gym

My husband and I are looking to set up our own home gym and workout together. He's set on adjustable free weights, a bench and he has a third thing I don't remember. Does anyone have any experience with a small at home elliptical machine? I'm looking at them on Amazon and want opinions on combining the cardio with learning to use our new free weights. Thoughts? I have a yoga/Zumba studio membership but wanted to use those classes as more of a treat instead of my regular exercise since it's not super convenient.

That sounds wonderful! Especially if you are both interested because the added support and encouragement is so important to success. I was going to the gym after recovering from hip replacement surgery, but slowly transitioned over to home workouts. It's just more convenient if I work out early in the morning before breakfast. Ellipticals will give you a good workout, but if you have knee, hip or back issues, it might not be the best machine. Maybe you can get a trial membership at a gym or the Y and try out several different types of machines before investing. Personally, I would go for a good treadmill that can be used as a warm-up or cool-down to your weigh training and can also be used for a good burn. Are you considering a balanced nutrition plan, too? I have some suggestions for your weight training programs is your interested. I would love to know what you decide.

Actually elliptical machines are much more low impact than treadmills. I'm sure you have a great nutrition plan suggestion for OP, shakeology?

OP an elliptical is a great way to warm up before lifting weights, I don't have experience with one at home but use the lifestyle brand at the gym...love it.

Thanks for the note. I ordered a Sunny machine after reading reviews. When I was going to the gym, I really liked the elliptical there, so I'm anxious to get one at home. I'm hoping that with counting my calories and making sure to get to working out at least 30 min every day, that I will start to see results!

Thank you! I agree that with us doing it together it will be better. I've worked on my health myself, but it's hard when my husband isn't participating and wants pizza on the weekends!
