How much weight should a beginner (less than a year of knowledgeable training) aim to bench press for?

A good routine that you could follow is called Strong Lifts 5x5, which you can find here.
There are too many variables to determine how much you can actually lift. However, with this program you will gradually work your way up to being very strong.

Stronglifts is indeed a great program.
Personally, I never lift anything above my bodyweight (except weighted pullups and dips). But I'm over 40 and have all sorts of joint problems.
But since you couldn't be bothered to add your current size, goals, or even whether you're a man or a woman, I'm going to say that you should forget the bench press altogether and instead take some classes at your local community college.0 -
